Is your cylinder head from an earlier Jaguar? Only the 'A' heads were bare ally with differing valve angles, 3.4 ltr and they weren't fitted to E Types. E Types always had painted heads. Just curious - I'm a Jag fanatic.

Its a 4.2...series 1.5 car (late 1967 build)...you likely know the late series 1 cars started to have some of the parts from the 1968 series 2 cars installed on them as parts for as the parts for the older models ran out at the factory (I'm told). My car is a blend (has the series 1 toggle switches on the panel rather than series 2 rockers for example, but it has the series 2 headlamps).
The engine "is" painted...but it is painted gray/silver. I think that during a rebuild in the 1990s it got painted the different color.

Some progress photos. First are a couple of the finished wheel and tire...by itself and then I sat it next to the real one, as I did for my prior posts. I lightly sanded the "tread" part of the tire so that it is not as shiny as it is out of the box. I think that helped the realism a little. mattsanf attached the following image(s):

Next are a couple of photos of the re-painting process that I am using for the "pale primrose" color to match my car. I am using the same paint as I am using the on real car, including the clear coat. Here are some photos with the clear coat on. Note on the last photo you can see an early problem that I had on the doors. I found out that if I sand through to the original primer that comes on the parts, my paint will react with it and bubble. I see to need to sand off "all" original paint to bare metal...or just lightly sand the paint not through to the original primer. I am now choosing the 2nd option for ease. mattsanf attached the following image(s):

Final post for this time. I bought this spray booth on amazon now that it is cold out so that i can still spray paint these rattle-can automotive paint parts during the winter. It is potent stuff. I am thrilled that this spray booth vented by hose out the window actually works! I was skeptical. Really happy with it. I am mainly a woodworker, so many of these modeling tools are fairly new to me. mattsanf attached the following image(s):

It's all coming along really well. Love the colour. I'll have to look at those indoor spray booths and see if they do one a bit bigger. It's getting too chilly and damp for spraying in the garage now.

Hi there, I made a spray booth out of a packing box, an old dyson vacuum cleaner and a cake decorating turntable. Obviously not as good as a purpose built off the shelf unit but it does work. Chris Chris (Andover)

Nice home-grown spray booth, Chris! I made one of those first (minus the Dyson) and did not have enough suction. The Dyson likely did it for you.
The Amazon one that I bought is a "dual-fan" version since I was concerned that the rattle can spray stench would overwhelm the single fan version. Not sure...
This is the one that I bought; Double Fans Airbrush Spray Booth by Ophir. It looks like there is one Chinese company that makes all of these under different generic names as far as I can tell.

The engine is now more or less complete, with light weathering and wear to match my actual car. Also has blue plug wires (hard to see in the photos) to match those on my car. I also sprayed and clear coated the second door pale primrose, but it appears that my new can (from same source) is not the same shade as the old can. So I have ordered another can with hopes of a better match. mattsanf attached the following image(s):
