Thanks Derek.

Didn’t know they made such thing’s until looking around on the internet. They are not cheap, but probably no more than other after market parts.Cool

It took a lot of fiddling to get it to fit, but well worth it.

Just a quick update, parts sanded down, primed and the painted with base colour. Solved where all the lighting will be, which will be shown soon. Next, gloss varnish and decals placed.

More soon

Thank you for looking in Clay.Cool

Just a little update. I have now added all the decals onto the cockpit panels. This was done over a three-day period and was not easy. All the lights had to match the hole in the etched brass and if it moved once it moved a dozen times, so only placed on a couple at a time to dry before proceeding with anymore. Once these were placed, I varnished it with satin varnish, left to dry before placing all the greeblies on. The whole thing was then dry brushed with a delicate silver, you can hardly see it, but gave the whole piece that metallic feel and highlighted certain areas.

The last picture shows a couple of bulbs placed on the underside to show and give some idea to the lighting effect.

Next, I will be colouring some of the lights with red, blue, and green on the inside. The lighting will be micro strip lighting with a very bright finish, some flashing smd’s as well as a few fiber optics before attaching the visual screen.

Still a lot of work to do.Cool

More soon.

Mark

Hi Clay

I haven’t wired the screen in just yet, the picture shown is just the light from LED’s coming through. I will show on the next update how it will be done, but the extra lighting inside and screen will be on a separate circuit. Adding these to the supplied circuit board might effect it or at worse blow it.

I’m looking forward to it all in place myself.

BTW, did you manage to persuade your lovely wife to get one?

Thanks
Mark

Now the panels have had time to dry, I have used some micro crystal clear on the underside before painting individual windows with some colour. I decided not to go over the top with the colouring, less is more as they say.
I then placed the OLED screen inside and fixed it in position using some double-sided tape. This gives me the option of taking it out for servicing should I need to in the future.
When placing the screen in place, I noticed there was a 1mm over run on the underside when fixing the cockpit panel onto the base. I had to cut a ridge out and fill the underside with a piece of styrene giving me that 1mm recess for the screen. After that, I wired 4 strips of LED lighting on the top of the base for the lighting under the cockpit panels. These will be run on a 9v supply independently from the supplied lighting. The screen is also attached to the 9v supply with a buck convertor dropping the voltage to 5v.
I have also painted some detail on the back of the cockpit panels.
The supplied lighting for the cockpit is still used in the two side panels and the screen bulb will be placed in the rear of the cockpit supplying lighting to this area. This will be done next.

I have also done a video to show the screen working.

More soon
