A few progress photos. I am really enjoying adding the furniture etc but the masts, although not that difficult, seemed to take for ever.

You might want to consider to paint the top of the masts in 2 tone with ocre. The manual indicates the tops to be black only but I did not manage to get any reference to this. Neither do period paintings show the top of the masts to be black. If I did it again I would change this on my build. I would also have changed the galley detail as per yours - one keeps on learning every day.

Hi Roeland,

No, this is my fourth wooden ship kit and the nicest one to do by a long margin....so far!
I have built other kits before. Many plastic race cars as per most young boys and I also started (but have yet to finish) the Mcalaren MP4-23, the rest of which is currently boxed up in the attic. Not too sure whether the temperatures up there have warped any of the parts. Maybe one day I'll dig it out.

Lovely work Chris.

Those masts do have a lot of work to get them finished.

Very neat work on yours.

Tony

I now notice my paintwork to be slightly incorrect.

Where do you think there was a slight slip?

I mostly followed the wales...especially at the stern of the ship

This was a real conundrum for me.

The wales didn't follow the gun ports.

The painting didn't follow the wales.

The paining didn't follow the gun ports.

In the instructions, the painting plan never followed the pictures I took of the real Victory at Portsmouth.

and neither followed a text book I bought.

.....

In the end, so long as it's close, it will look good.

I must admit that I kept looking at the instructions and at some photos of the real thing and I became very confused.
The instructions are (deliberately?) vague so I just followed them as best I could.
It took me a couple of re-paints before I got what I thought was correct.
As you say, if it's close enough, it's good enough.
Looking through the members build diaries, there are more than a few variations.
As long as we are all happy with our own builds, that's all that really matters.

Good - after extensive deliberation I decided to keep it as is. I'm of the opinion the original designer of the Victory made a mistake.
