Thanks for the previous comments chaps. OK, I'm back on this one for a while. The silver body paint has had a couple of weeks to harden off, so I thought I'd add the decals next so the shell can be clear coated before fitting the windows etc... Oh dear... The 40 year old decals are pretty much shot to bits. There was just NO WAY the large areas of red decal wanted to conform to the body despite copious amounts of decal softener etc. So - the decals were cut out and used as templates to draw the areas onto the body using a pencil. Once it was all masked off, primer and red were applied. I'm hoping that the smaller multi-blue decal stripes will be able to go on at the edges of the red. If not, I'll possibly have to draw up and print all those decals myself. Fingers crossed... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

The edge of the red paint job looks perfect. Did you achieve that by just using the flexible Tamiya white tape or did you seal the edge of the mask with clear before the red?

Hello Rich. The edge of the red was done just using the Tamiya flexible tape, well rubbed down before any paint was applied. It really is good stuff.

A very brief update here. I've started to add the Martini stripe decals which is a NIGHTMARE. They are extremely brittle and cracked due to age. Almost every stripe has broken into numerous parts and has had to be fiddled into place using copious amounts of Decalfix. There are still wrinkles to deal with but I'll attend to those with Microsol after the decals have dried overnight. Fingers crossed... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Really slow progress on this one as the decals are such a horrendous nightmare. They are virtually all useless which has meant I've had to draw up from scratch and print a lot of them myself. Even then, the huge compound curves mean the decals don't want to conform even with plenty of decalfix and microsol. Fortunately, nearly all done. roymattblack attached the following image(s):

All the decals are finally finished and the body has been given 3-4 coats of clear. A few days to harden off and then it's time to get this one finished... roymattblack attached the following image(s):

Looking good Roy, nicely finished and all the more amazing because you are able to produce your own decals.
Nice work.

Well, I bit the bullet over the past few days and this one is now finished. More pics in the completed section. Many thanks to all those who followed this 'somewhat trying' build... roymattblack attached the following image(s):
