Good day from 'The Dockyard. So this week i have cut, painted and laid all of the deck plates. I first made templates from 0.25mm thick plastic sheet, as the deck plates are laid in sections. Once i was happy with the templates, i glued these onto a sheet of etched brass which has a diagonal pattern. It's actually 1/35 scale, but being as this particular pattern was the smallest, it actually looks good in a 1/48 scale environment. I then painted them all with flat aluminium, varnished with a matt acrylic spray before i pin washed with thinned matt black. Once dry, wiped the excess off, leaving the pin wash in the gaps only. That concludes this post. I'm quite pleased with the way the deck plates have turned out. I like the changes in colour as it portrays worn areas and slightly dirty patches I will be posting next week looking to add some u-boat crew to bring the compartment to life. Just catching up, missed your last post. Those decking plates look fantastic, can’t tell ant difference with the scale as you said. The figures look great too. Glad you said the watchkeeper was reaching for a valve, I nearly waved back at him.  Mark

Good evening from 'the Dockyard'. This week i added a little more detail, using after market parts, to the engineering mechanic. I placed a spanner in his right hand and made up a white metal bucket with handle. I cut out a piece of cotton sheet, crumpled it up with a bit of PVA to hold its shape, spotted some black pin wash on it to simulate oil and stuffed it into the bucket. I figured the engineering mechanic is doing an oil change on the air compressor. I then painted a funnel and wedged this into the top of the bucket and finished off this little scenario with a period oil can. See attached photo.
