I know I posted similar shots of the bow recently but it only came to my notice today that the keel is looking twisted. I have attached another couple of shots for your comments, please. Is this going to cause problems at a later date in the build. I seriously hope not because its a lot of dismantling if I have to do that. Sorry, forgot to change the image extension.

If you've go this far, Chris, this is later.

I'm not sure what is going to happen from this point on that would be a problem beyond what you can see already.

From what I see Chris, you have managed to get this far without encountering any real problems. With a twisted keel the biggest problem you would have come across would have been apparent when fitting the gallery. She's really is looking fab and a strip back is not an option to be taken lightly considering the progress you've made, in fact is not an option I would take. What I would ask you to do is to temporarily fit the masts and bowsprit in place, then take a series of pics from bow to stern and stern to bow. This will give you an idea how it will all line up. Also, how do you intend to display the build, ie, will it be viewed side on or from the bow?
Look forward to seeing the pics....
Regards
Alan

Alan Hi All, thank you for taking the time to take a look and comment. A good idea of Alan's to put the masts and dummy bowsprit on to see how everything aligns. I'll do that later and take a few shots of her. Perhaps you would be good enough to have another look for me. I must admit that I haven't given display options any thought until now. I guess it will depend on which side turns out to be the most acceptable.

I took some pics of the model with the masts temporarily in place. Unfortunately, they wouldn't remain in their correct positions while I was taking the shots. The bowsprit isn't made up yet so I just inserted the dummy stem from earlier in the build. Oddly enough, the distortion of the keel doesn't look so alarming when this is fitted. Would appreciate any comments about the keel distortion (Or am I being over concerned?) You can definitely see the twist in the third pic. goddo attached the following image(s):

TBH I still can't see anything worth worrying about. The build itself is wonderful with stacks more to add that I don't believe will highlight any distortions more than it has so far. In fact they will take the eye away from it.
The alternative is to think about what you will need to do at this point, to achieve the outcome you are looking for. In other words, the cure could be worse than the disease.

Looks pretty good to me. If there is a twist it's only a very slight one and if need be the masts can easily be adjusted to all line up. If it was my build there's no way I would strip it back Man he took his time in the sun Had a dream to understand A single grain of sand He gave birth to poetry But one day will cease to be Greet the last light of the library...We were here!

From what I see Chris I certainly wouldn't contemplate any amount of stripping back, can't see anything to be worried about. If I were you I would simply carry on.... Looking fab..... Regards Alan

Thanks for taking the time to have a look and comment. As I said earlier, once I put in the dummy bowsprit and "stood back a bit" things didn't look as bad as I thought originally. No stripping back and just carry on then. Thanks again. Chris

I'm no expert, but it looks just great to me. I think you only see it because you know it's there. To the layman they just see a superb build Regards Gray

Many thanks to John, Alan, eebygum, night wisher, leedsfromsouth and CaptBirdseye for commenting and offering kind words of encouragement. It means a lot. My "twisted keel worry spell" is over and I'll continue with the build as it is. Thanks again. Happy modelling. Chris

Hi Chris, I think your build looks fantastic!!! I am glad that you have decided to overlook the issue. Once all the rigging is done and she is in a display case - none will be the wiser Kind regards, Garth "Measure twice, cut once!!!" Finished!!! HMS Victory, Current build: Black Pearl. On hold: Bismarck, Golden Hind, Flying Scotsman, Victory Cross Section, SOTS, Tiger 1. Wish list: USS Constitution.

Garth wrote:..... and she is in a display case..... Thanks for your kind comments Garth. But therein lies a bit of a problem. I haven't even thought about a display case yet and the model is already getting very dusty. I keep brushing off what I can but once I start adding the rigging, I can see a big build up of dust and bees wax among other things. I did buy one of those bulb air "puffer" things which it isn't very effective. I don't own a compressor so that idea doesn't work for me. Does anyone have any tips on keeping things clean(er)?

Did you try a hairdryer on cold air or a blower? I also use a soft paintbrush for the dusting.
