Looking from another angle.

I'm very happy with this particular shade of green. The parts were then clear coated with matt acrylic varnish. I've only just finished that job, so next week i'll apply a pin wash to all these parts to pick out the details. Only when the engines are complete will i then use oils to add patches, streaks and runs to them. It won't be too over the top though, as these engines were kept surprisingly clean when in service; the reason being that it is easier to spot and locate an oil leak. Take it from me, being on watch in an Engine Room on a Diesel submarine, between noting down pressure readings and temperatures and there was a lot to jot down while on watch, i spent the rest of the time cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning.

The next job was to assemble and paint the extractor fan unit and isolation valves. Due to the location of the pipework and where it connects to the bulkhead, i can only assume it's the extractor for the Galley, to clear the steam and smoke while the cook's busy boiling spuds and frying mince and onions!

I then pin washed the rest of this structure; not too over the top. I will add a couple of rust streaks when it's fitted, so i can better gauge the level of weathering required.

The etched brass parts in this photo show new pieces fitted. These were then painted, varnished and pin washed.
