Thinking of adding lights to hood instead of r/c as parts should fit in the gaps for motors. Anyone help with sourcing correct bits or is it not possible?

You would first need to ascertain exactly what you are going to light, and then prodice a hit list of needs, also there is no reason why you could not combine lighting with an R/C build, though unless you sail in the dark, the lighting will be barely visible.
