Firstly I would just like to say hi to everyone on the forum. I have been following you all since the beginning and took up some early advice by taking on another project to fill the time between issues, I have only made a handful of models in the past and wanted something that would help develop the skills required to make the best job possible with the McLaren so I brought a Tamiya 1/12 Williams FW14B plastic kit, the plan was to have one evening a week model making, 3 weeks Williams and 1 week McLaren but once I started the Williams I could not put it down and finished it in six weeks! When it should have taken about a year, so I am now back to waiting four weeks between model making sessions  . Anyway considering I am almost a complete novice I am quite pleased with the results and thought I would share them with you all. To give you some Idea of size the car is sitting on an A3 cutting mat, the only modification I have made from the standard kit was the Camel logos. I would advise any other inexperienced guys out there to try something similar as there will be tricky some moments ahead and it is best to practice on a kit rather than your £670 baby. Apologies for opening an old topic but can I ask where you located the 'B' end of Tubing C please? It just disappears part way through the instructions!

I have one still un-made as the other other went walkabout when loaned to a model shop that later stopped trading but if you could let me know which page in the instructions i can have a look and advise more.. Thought I had commented on this build before but must have missed it but nice clean build..

This is beautiful The FW14B is another one of my all time fav's, definately a future build! What are the final dimensions of this? Is there much difference in this and the 1/8 MP4-23?

Hi Heinzy I'm not sure about the exact dimensions I could measure it for you if you need an exact measurement but my pictures show it sitting on an A3 cutting mat, it is quite a bit smaller than the 1/8 MP4/23, it is probably about midway between 1/8 & 1/18.

Thats great thanks If we get the MP4/4 I'll probably get 2 kits and do the 2nd one up as the FW14B, then I'll have 4x 1:8 championship winning cars!

Hi Smeg,
Sorry for digging up this topic again!
I have just purchased this kit and just wanted to ask a quick question with regards to the front suspension cover. I'm guessing that there isn't a decal for the 'blue' part like the side pods and engine cover? So it's a case of masking for both the yellow and the blue spray paints?
By the way great model - if mine turns out half as good as yours I will be pleased!! If you have any tips for tackling this kit then they will greatly received!!

Hi Dave Yep I'm afraid you will have to mask and spray the two colours. The only decal that seperates the two is the red pinstripe decal. Spence

Hi Dave Thanks for the compliment  I didn't use any of the blue decals except for the background of the Elf logo on the airbox, all the blue was sprayed to ensure an even colour and better finish, there are some pinstripe decals with the blue attached with these I simply cut the blue off with a blade leaving a tiny line of blue behind. Use a good quality narrow masking tape for the curved bits and take your time when masking up then I'm sure you'll end up with something to be proud of. Good Luck.
