Before i could fit these items i had to make another food locker, which will be located next to the door on the dividing bulkhead. I could only get the dimensions for it when the WC was temporarily fitted with door open, which is why i didn't make it before.

That concludes this weeks update and the Galley is now completed. I've loved adding all the small, human touches to this section of the u-boat. It makes a nice change from building pumps, pipes and valves!LOL

Thanks for looking in, have a great weekend and happy modelling!BigGrin

Phil W.

Good evening from 'The Dockyard'.

So this week i began to fit out the Junior Rates Accomodation Space.

The attached photo shows the lower bunk space, with the 'bunk shelves' painted in sky grey. The bottom edge of the lower bunks has been lined with genuine walnut veneer. It makes so much difference working with 'real world' materials rather than trying to paint plastic to look like wood.

The next job was to make 6 mattresses. For this i used 0.5mm thick acetal sheet, cut to size to fit the lower bunk space. As before i used real materials to make the mattress covers, in this case, dark brown cotton tape. I cut out 6 sections of the cotton tape, applied double sided tape to each piece and then wrapped them around the acetal profiles. The double sided tape worked a treat.BigGrin

I then proceeded to make 3 pillows. Using a small piece of thick card, taken from the cat's food cartonLOL. I cut it to shape and applied a piece of double-sided tape to one side.

Using a thin strip of kitchen towel, cut to the same width as the cardboard, i folded it over several times and then pressed it onto the double-sided tape.

One of the crew figures i bought a while ago, made of white metal, was in the sleeping position. I carefully cut away the pillow, painted the figure and the icing on the cake was when i added thin cotton jersey, in grey and glued it over his blanket. It has made so much difference, rather than trying to paint a blanket.BigGrin

The attached photo shows a quick 'mock-up' showing the sleeping crew member. This picture shows, with a little bit of thought, how 'real materials' can bring a model to life.

Great imagination and skill there, Phil.
The pillow and blanket are brilliant.
