Need to thin out my part works collections (this being one of them) but not sure best route as ebay has some “not ideal” buyers that try it on and you can end up loosing money.
Similar with some of the ship kits i have bought in recent years (not going to live long enough to get them all done :-) )
How much more work do you think you have left before you complete your build?
Best wishes
Tony Hi Tony, thanks for looking and i hope you're well? Maybe set a reserve price on ebay with your items? I'm sort of looking to complete the whole thing by year end, more than likely it will be Jan 2022, so almost on the home straight now. Regards, Phil W. Fantastic modelling as always Phil, showing great individual skills and whilst I have no doubt that this will absolutely be a museum quality model when finished (it already is), it will also be a very detailed microcosm of what life was actually like onboard a full-sized WWII U-boat!
Very well done Phil!!

Great update, all seems to be coming together now. It actually give you the sense of how claustrophobic it was in these tubs. Mark

Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. Thankyou for all the kind comments and i'm pleased that the cramped environment within these U-boats is coming across with this build. Many people over the years have asked me, "what's it like being on a submarine?". It's a difficult question to answer unless you were there, so with this build, one of my aims was to show people the conditions on a U-boat, which is very similar to the diesel/electric boats i served on. So, this week begins by starting on a new stage in the build and a new compartment to fill with all manner of things! First job was to make the bulkhead door that separates this compartment with the torpedo compartment. I then busied myself by making the beds, using the same technique and materials when fitting out the the Junior Rates Accommodation Space. The next step was to mark out some datum lines along the length of the compartment to act as guides when fitting the beds and wardrobes etc. All of these marks will eventually be covered with deck plate. Next job was to make the WC. Slightly larger than the one fitted in the Galley, as it included a sink, it could used whilst dived, down to a depth of 25 metres. The WC in the galley could only be used whilst the U-boat was surfaced. Below 25 metres, the buckets were brought out! More fabulous model building from you Phil and another great update, well done!
I never realised that you were a submariner in your earlier life. No wonder you know so much about these amazing machines and it definitely shows in your model.

Good evening from 'The Dockyard'. So continued progress with the current compartment. It is split into different sections; CO's cabin, Sonar shack, W/T shack, Officers Accommodation space and Senior Rates Accommodation Space. Rather than name check each section every time i post an update, i'll just refer to it as the Officers Accommodation, unless i'm working on a particular section. Following on from last week, i added walnut veneer dividers that separate the CO's cabin [Commanding Officer], the Officer's bunk space and Senior Rates bunk space. I also made up the bed frames and these can be seen in the attached photo being test fitted between each divider. Sticky Wickett attached the following image(s): Completed projects: 1/43 scale Bedford HA van / 1/43 scale MG TD sports car Current projects: 1/48 scale U-boat [U230] Future projects: 1/148 scale railway diorama / 1/50 scale R/C Volvo F89 logging truck / 1/148 scale Thunderbirds Fireflash

Once happy with the bed frames, i added a section of walnut veneer to each front, which keeps the mattresses in place. 3 out of the total of 5 bed frames fitted. The one on the left will be the CO's bed, the middle one is part of the Officers bunk space and dining area and the one on the right makes up a double bunk space for the Senior Rates. Top bunk bed frame made up for the Senior Rates bunk space. Nothing fancy, just different lengths of acetal, cut and glued and then painted in flat aluminium.
