I was asked by somebody how to use Alclad Chrome so heres my method.
1 Alclad Chrome will only work well applied over black ENAMEL gloss. I use Humbrol thinned 60/40 with white spirit which gives an easy to spray material with little chance of runs, this is presuming a reasonable use of an airbrush that can be moderated down to about 12psi.
2 Do not try to polish the enamel rely on the high gloss created.
3 Shake the Alclad thoroughly and then put a small amount into the airbrush, then spray from about 150mm two light coats. You will immediately begin to see the shine appear, when you are satisfied Stop.
4 You will notice a slight dusting which can be removed with a soft cloth, and that is it.
I have parts I chromed 5 years ago which look as good as when I first applied it

Hi bigmal! Thanks for the info, I do have a question about the Klear Kote Alclad do aswell, Can you polish the Alclad Chrome finish before Klear Koting? and have you ever used the Klear Kote? Many Thanks! Building the McLaren MP4-23

Quite honestly the Chrome finish doesn't need any further treatment it will last and last. If you are happy with the finish I would leave well alone! As for polishing my answer is the same. Some Alclads do respond to polishing such as stainless steel, aluminium etc but the high finishes should come from the airbrush.

Something I didn't mention was Klear Cote, not needed but today I was playing around with the red wing elements and the semi matt finish. I couldnt use Acrylic clear coating, it affects the decals, and Klear needs a lot of polishing so I went back to using Tamiya polishing compound and their plastic polish. The results were outstanding and very simple
