I'm assuming this car is going to be quite heavy when finished as the wheels are fairly weighty on their own.
Anyone know ?

Well I hope there are many more metal parts, I think when a model has weight it really gives it an added detail, more of a realistic stance.

Not sure about 75kg dave1978, would need some reinforcing to do on the shelving. 10kg would be fine.

The total weight of the James Bond DB5 Aston Martin is 8.4kg. That model has a metal body so I would be surprised if the McLaren is heavier.

Evening All, the weight of formula one cars for the 2008 season was reduced from 605kg to 550kg, current weight for this season is 650kg so if you do divide 550kg by 8 approximate weight would be 68.75kg which if i'm not very much mistaken is erm very heavy indeed!!

Don't think you will find weight follows the same rules
ie @ 1:2 scale everything is half size..but not the weight..or at least I hope not as we Victory modellers are going to end up with nearly 4 feet of model weighing several tons sitting on a shelf or cupboard!!!!!!!!!!Blink Blink Blink

Hi Guys

Thes scale weight of the McLaren is a little over 1kg.

Dontshootme is right the 1:8 applies to the measurments but not weight, volume etc. so to work out the scale weight you have to divide the weight of the real car by 8cubedConfused(8x8x8=512)or to put it another way you need 512 1/8 models to fill the same volume of a full size original. So if we assume jameelassan has gone round to Lewis's house with some scales and he does indeed weigh 55kgLOL and the weight of the car is 545kg (600kg = car + driver) then the scale weight of our model is 545/512=1.064kg.BigGrin

I know what you are all thinking, how can 1/8th go into 512Confused. Imagine you have a big room and lots of models, if you put the models on the floor to create a grid of 8 models long and 8 models wide you will have 64 models on the floor, you will then need 7 more layers like this to acheive the height 8x64=512.

Still confused? so am ILaugh
