Hi Guys

Thes scale weight of the McLaren is a little over 1kg.

Dontshootme is right the 1:8 applies to the measurments but not weight, volume etc. so to work out the scale weight you have to divide the weight of the real car by 8cubedConfused(8x8x8=512)or to put it another way you need 512 1/8 models to fill the same volume of a full size original. So if we assume jameelassan has gone round to Lewis's house with some scales and he does indeed weigh 55kgLOL and the weight of the car is 545kg (600kg = car + driver) then the scale weight of our model is 545/512=1.064kg.BigGrin

I know what you are all thinking, how can 1/8th go into 512Confused. Imagine you have a big room and lots of models, if you put the models on the floor to create a grid of 8 models long and 8 models wide you will have 64 models on the floor, you will then need 7 more layers like this to acheive the height 8x64=512.

Still confused? so am ILaugh

good simple answer there mate!! LOL. i understand now but how did you know this? lol

Don't forget though that this is a model of Lewis Hamiltons' McLaren, so you should deduct the weight of the front wing !! LOL LOL

This ide a of scale weight is all very well but I doubt if DeAgostini are using exactly the same materials as McLaren do on the real car. Just a thought.BigGrin

I think somebody was just asking out of curiosity. It's much more important if you're making a working scale model model, when you need the right scale weight so it floats at the right water line.
