Just started working on issue 93 - Hammock Nets.

We have had the various cranes and accessories delivered since issue 66, and I am now confused as to what parts we should be using.

Essentially, what size black thread, and what size wire should I be using?

I seem to have a whole variety of black thread sizes now as well as 0.5 mm, 1.0 mm and a thick piece of unknown size brass wire (1.66 mm with issue 93 - does anyone know what this will be for?.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi John, BigGrin

Not found the answer to the thread/wire for the hammock nets yet, but the wire in issue 93 is used in issue 101 as per the picture below:

Hi again,

In issue 93 where the hammock nets are started there is the info for each net which tells you which issue the parts come from, so if you cross reference those issues it will tell you the wire and thread sizes used.

Thanks, Derek.

Yes, I missed that when I scanned through the future instructions.

And I certainly have enough 1.0 mm wire for catharpins I think, but as I said, the wire supplied with issue 93 appears to be 1.66 mm thick, which seems too big for these pins.

Thanks again.

Yes, the pattern seems to be to use 0.5 mm wire however this does not seem to be consistent in all issues.

As for the thread, again, the thickness is not given in the list and most of mine have been taken out of their packets now. For example, in issue 90 both 0.8 mm & 0.15 mm thread is supplied.

Here you go BigGrin

I`ve just dug deep (really deep) in my workroom and the only thread in issue 87, which is for attaching the hammock nets is 0.15 diameter, so that`s what I`d use.

The wire in my issue 93 is 1mm diameter and measures 88mm in length.

0.15 mm thread and 0.5 mm wire it is then.

My wire is 120 mmm long and 1.66 mm thick. Just a rogue piece I guess. Being so thick, it's not easy to handle.

Apart from being hard to handle, I think it will look out of scale.Crying

Lots of places sell small amounts of brass wire.

Just one example in the link below:

Thanks again Derek.

I certainly wasn't planning to use that but looking around my man cave, I found some 0.8 mm wire I'd bought years ago and will look OK I think.
