As some of you know, i have very little experience with the airbrush and next to no experience with PE - so this will be a challenge, also regarding the old mouldings with raised details!!

So please don`t be too harsh with your comments :)

So i gave it a go yesterday.

Scratched away all the original detail of the cockpit and replaced it with PE.

In the Eduard set, there are a lot of prepainted and self-adhesive PE-parts which makes me unsure of when to attach which part regarding the painting.

I only can hope i get everything right.

Thanks guys,

only little progress has been made preparing bits and pieces, which there are hundreds of.

I`m starting to realize i might have overestimated my skills. Those fiddly PE-parts tend to break very easily.

I have no idea so far how to attach all those inner hull parts, paint them and then put the two halves together without destroying everything.

I´ll be on a vacation for the next three weeks - so enough time to think about it!

Nice work so far Walter, looking very good. I note from your photos that you are bending those PE parts in their raw state, i.e. straight from the brass fret, hence their nice shiny brass colouration and it is probably why they are breaking so easily when you try to bend them? The metal is hard and brittle in its' raw state? You will find PE much easier to work with and bend, if you anneal the whole PE sheet before you start cutting the parts out. This can be done by holding the PE sheet in some pliers or tweezers and then holding it above a cigarette lighter flame until the brass glows red hot and discolours as it cools down? This will anneal the metal and make it much softer, removing the tendency for it to snap when you try to bend it! You will be painting over the parts when they've been added to your model, so the discolouration won't matter?

Hope that helps you Walter and keep those updates coming, I will be watching. Cool ThumpUp

Kev

Thanks for that tip, Kev - i will try that at the next occation.

I´ve been at home forr a few hours between two holiday trips - and after thinking a lot about how all that PE-interior should stay at its place - i came up with the solution of scratch-building some supports.

Also some parts for the waist interior were prepared.

Little progress - started with preparation of parts for the bomb bay.

No idea how this should all come together in the end - especially with the the two halves of the hull having to still fit with all the interior stuff.

More great detail going into your build Walter and looking good! Cool ThumpUp

I wouldn't worry too much about whether the two fuselage halves will fit properly with all of this added PE detail. When the PE sets are designed the manufacturers would have the relevant plastic kit to hand and make their measurements accordingly so that it will all fit together in the end?

Keep up the good work Walter, watching with interest.

I hope you guys are not bored with me posting every detail of this build.
There is so much going on - most of the time just thinking and planning.

All the interior detail is overwhelming - to be able to attach part X you first have to build part Y - but thats not possible before painting part Z - which shouldn`t be painted before attaching part X!!!

Don`t know how to solve all that problems - especially as there are no real reference-builds to find in the internet!

Also i really don`t get along very well with that airbrush - i just can`t get a constant flow.

So it`s all learning by doing but maybe some day in the future someone will benefit from my diary and can avoid some of the problems.
Greetings,
Walter

As i won`t use the kit part for the waist gunposition i had to build a small box for the "bumper" at the lower waist.
