Not sure which chimney to use. I favour the copper one as its like the real one. Still need to figure out how to get the chimney top done tho...

Superb stuff and the attention to detail is amazing.
Far more ingenuity and diligence than I can ever muster. Well done Odo.

Thanks Chris, and don't sell yourself short with a build like yours! I think everyone taking on and finishing this build shows high levels of diligence and ingenuity!

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone who's progressed much further with their build, would be able to give me some advise please.

Does the cut out in the middle false deck of the gallery has any function? I cannot find anything in the instructions and guess the planking of the poop deck will just cover it!? Initially, I thought it to let some light through from the poop decks skylight but its positioning of both don't line up I believe.

I'm asking, as I'm playing with the thought to customise the inside of the gallery decks a little and am wondering if I need to keep this cutout or if I can cover it?

Any advise is welcome!

Hi Odo i can't see it serves any purpose and can be covered over, i regret not doing anything inside the gallery, if you find the build log for darkwoodster he is the chap that produced all the aftermarket add ons he did a fantastic job of the inside with the chequered floor and all the furniture.

Hi Richard,

Thanks for confirming that the cutout doesn't serve any purpose. I was concerned that I miss something in the instructions and potentially causing a big issue further down the build.

I did order the gallery enhancement from woodysmodelworks a while back, I figure I must be darkwoodster then. In the instructions he send with his kit, there was a picture with the interior done in the gallery which gave me the idea to try this as well.

He mentioned, and I had the same thought, once the gallery if finished the inside will be very dark and interior lighting would be beneficial.

The trouble with all these different ideas available in this forum, you end up going down a rabbit hole... researching some options I came across some micro LED lighting which might do the trick but would require space for a battery pack of sorts.

Doing internal lighting is not something i had planned initially and am not familiar with at all. So well, no final decision made just yet

Ahoy fellow maties,

I think I might have dug myself a rabbit hole and as I finally gave in to my inner battle and decided to decorate the gallery levels before regretting not having done it at some point in the future.

As a rough guide and inspiration, I'll be taking illustration from a book I found for 2 quid on a small bookshelf in an aviation museum. I'm sure that some of you know it too. It's called

STEPHEN BIESTY'S
CROSS-SECTIONS
MAN-OF-WAR

i've only just started, so there'll be more pictures added in due course.

I started with planking the lower gallery deck as I want it to have an oak finish. i'll do the middle and upper gallery decks with the checkered flooring...

I will Chris.

I'm using this forum pretty much as a realtime diary, even if it means to present work in progress and incomplete sections.

That way at least, I don't have to rummage through loads of photos at a later stage.
