Hi Odo,
Some really nice details there especially with the pump.
That's a nifty looking tool you used for bending the brass wire handles.
Would you mind sharing what it's called and where you got it from please?

According to my reference book, each handle of the chain pumps could be operated by up to 30 men (with extensions). Hence, I figured that my handles came a bit short of that and after referencing other picture and videos showing the pumps, I extended mine too, and added some cannon balls around the grating. Another short update as I come close to the completion (not quite there yet) of the details for the visible part of the lower gun deck. I rather do little updates than big ones to avoid having to upload too many pictures at ones and most likely miss some stages. This way I'm sure to have a more complete diary and get other builders inspired as much as I was inspired by other builders  This time its the lower part of the capstan. I'm planning to complete the details (missing stairs and posts by NYE, fingers crossed... Odo attached the following image(s):

Hi Odo,
All of your posts show a stunning build in progress.
As I've said before, the skill and dedication of all the modellers on here is superb.
Maybe 2024 will bring some new members to the fold as well.

I thought to give it a try to make the ladders myself as others have too. Firstly, as with so many other things I needed to figure out how to go about it. I have a mini table saw which I thought to be very helpful with the task but since its a very cheap one where nothing is adjustable, it turned out to be a much longer process as anticipated. I had to make a jig to be able to cut slots in the planks for the steps to slide in. But despite the final cut planks look okay, the jig is not very stable and hard to handle. In addition, the sides of the ladder are mirror opposites and therefore required a second jig, which had to be an exact copy of the first one but mirrored. And that's exactly where the problem was. The jigs are so unstable and their setup is so flimsy, that the cuts only partially lined up and out of 3 30cm planks for each side I can only get 4 or 5 ladders. So right now I'm not sure of whether to continue with that process. I need better jigs, that's for sure! But for the current stage I only needed two ladders so it just worked out Odo attached the following image(s):

And here we go, I'm quite happy with the result. The ceiling will have to stay as it is as I can't do anything about it anymore and It's not really gonna be visible due to the viewing angle anyways. Hi Odo, That is some outstanding scratch building in such a confined space.  Due to the detail and that its all scratch built, I have no problem in awarding you the "Yellow" medal for an "Outstanding Build"   Well done. Regards delboy271155 (Derek) Admin I feel honoured and quite touched by this award  Thank you very much Derek  I probably mentioned it before but I'm happy to say it again; the plan was never to go into such detail, but going through the numerous other great builds by fellow modellers of this build and others builds on this forum gave me the inspiration to think past the straight forward kit build. Therefore, I'd like dedicate this medal to this website for giving everyone a platform for inspiration, to show what's possible and find support for when it gets tricky or one gets stuck.
