Issue 33, Part 1

This is the first part of issue 33.
Assembling the First Floor Walls and Wallpaper
Retrieve the first-floor wall frame assembly from issue 32, along with all the wall panels, picture 2. The first panels to assemble are (L) and (K). Using wood glue, apply the glue to the frame, picture 3, and fit panel (L) in place. Once this has been done, do the same to the next panel (K). Hold these in place using clamps as shown in picture 4. Allow this to dry for 24 hours, picture 5.
Now take the other two panels (I) and (J) and attached in the same way as before, pictures 6 and 7, again allow to dry, picture 8.
Take some sandpaper and sand the wall assemble smooth, particularly the end nearest the door as the wallpaper will need to be curved around this area, picture 9.
Now we get to put the wallpaper on. Take the wall assembly along with the shorter of the two wallpapers, and a kraft knife, picture 10. Note the side you will be placing the paper on, which is panels (I) and (J).
Starting from the bottom, peel off the backing of the wallpaper and apply it to the wall, make sure the wallpaper fits snug to the left-hand side and overhangs on the right. Now, carefully work your way to the top, pushing out any air as you apply the paper, picture 11.
Next, fold the paper over the edge of the right-hand side, picture 12. Now turn the assembly over and using the kraft knife, carefully cut the wallpaper from the doorway, picture 13.
That completes part 1 of this issue, picture 14.

Issue 33, Part 2

This is the second part of issue 33.
Assembling the Pillow for Moominmamma’s Bed
Fold the fabric in half as shown in picture 1. Next, unfold the fabric and lay it reverse side up. Lay the template on the fabric and trace around the perimeter, picture 2.
Along the line of the outlined template, fold the edges in as shown in picture 3.
Fold the edges of the fabric inwards on both the long sides and stick some 1cm double sided tape as shown in picture 4. Next, cut the edges of the fabric diagonally about 4mm across, picture 5. Now, peel off the backing on the tape and fold the shorter side inwards, shown here in picture 6.
Take a napkin, I used a piece of kitchen roll, and fold it so it is slightly shorter than the template and when pressed it is approximately 2mm thick. Peel off the rest of the backing to the double-sided tape and place the napkin as shown in picture 7. Carefully fold the whole assembly in half, pushing the napkin in with a pair of tweezers if necessary. Push the edges together around the fabric until it is firmly stuck down. Picture 8 shows the final assembly.
The final picture 9, shows the pillow in place on Moominmamma’s bed.

Issue 34, Part 1

This is the first part of issue 34.
Assembling the Walls of the First Floor.
Position the parts as shown in picture 2, and mark a pencil line, using a ruler along the tabbed edge, picture 3. Take the wallpaper and stick it to the panel, aligning the edge with the drawn line. You should have enough to fold around the other edge, pictures 4 and 5. Turn the panel over and cut out carefully the excess wallpaper from the doorway, using a sharp kraft knife, picture 6. Cut out the tabs as shown in picture 7.
Now do the same on the opposite side using the other wallpaper sheet, again fold the edge as before, pictures 8 and 9. Now, using a kraft knife cut out the excess wallpaper from the doorway, along with the tabs, shown in picture 10.
Pictures 11 and 12 show the finished assembly on both sides.
That completes part 1 of this issue.

Issue 34, Part 2

This is the second part of issue 34.
Assembling the Table Under the Kitchen Sink.
Picture 1 shows the parts for this assembly. Detach all the parts using a sharp kraft knife and sand all the edges, where they have been laser cut. This will make the assembly less conspicuous when painting, picture 2. Lay out the parts shown in picture 3 and assemble with wood glue, picture 4.
Position the tabletop and the assembly you have just done, picture 5, and assemble the two parts as shown in picture 6, making sure you fit it centrally within the squares, as this is where the legs will be placed. I allowed this to dry before moving on to the next step.
Now take the four table legs and using a ruler, mark a line across the bottom of each leg as shown in picture 7. Next, glue the legs in place as shown in picture 8, making sure the pencil lines are on the inside.
Now we assemble the drawer. Take the parts as shown in picture 9 and assemble the parts as shown in picture 10.
Before we assemble the lower shelf, we now paint all the parts with a light brown paint.
Note: I use two shades of brown paint. Once dry, I then use a very diluted black wash to give a more antique look.
Attach the lower shelf, using wood glue, lining it up with the pencil marks. Next, insert the drawer handle into the hole on the drawer and secure with quick drying glue.
The assembly is now complete, picture 11.
Picture 12 shows the finished assembly in place inside the kitchen.

Issue 35, Part 1

This is the first part of issue 35.
Picture 1 shows the parts for this issue. Picture 2 shows the kitchen sink in place on the table we assembled in the previous issue.
Assembling the Wall of the First Floor.
Position the wall as shown in picture 3 and mark a pencil line along the tabbed end as we did in the previous issue. Align the wallpaper with the pencil line and stick it to the wall, picture 4. Now cut out the excess wallpaper from the tabs, picture 5.
Take the narrow panel provided in issue 32 and the wall assembly from issue 34, along with the assembly you have just made, and test fit the parts as shown in picture 6.
Glue the shorter panel with the assembly you have just made. I held it in place using clamps and allowed it to dry. I also held it in place by fitting it to the floor, keeping everything square whilst drying, picture 7.
Now fit the other wall panel with wood glue. At this stage I glued the whole frame to the first floor and held it together with clamps and allowed to dry for 24 hours, pictures 8 and 9.
Once dry, take the wall panel from issue 33 and glue it to the first floor as shown in picture 10.

Issue 35, Part 2

This is the second part of issue 35.
Assembling the Bathroom Cabinet (Bottom Part).
Using a sharp kraft knife, cut out the parts shown in picture 1. Sand all the edges of the pieces. This will make it less conspicuous when painting, picture 2. Fix the base parts together as shown in picture 3. Apply glue to one of the side panel parts, pushing the two tabs in place, picture 4. Next, fit the centre panel. This part has one tab and should have a small gap at the back once placed into position, picture 5. Fit the other end panel in the same way as before, picture 6.
Apply wood glue to the shelf part and fix into place as shown in picture 7, making sure it is pushed firmly into the slots on the side panels.
Finally, fit the door retainer at the bottom, sliding it into the slot of the central panel, picture 8.
Picture 9 shows the final assembly for this stage.

Issue 36, Part 1

This is the first part of issue 36.
Wallpapering the First Floor Walls
Retrieve the first floor, assembled in the previous issue. Carefully sand smooth the un-wallpapered walls where the joins are, along with smoothing the corners. Take care not to touch the wallpapered areas, using some removable tape over these areas might be an idea.
Pictures 2 and 3 show the two areas to sand in readiness for the wallpaper.
First, take the pink wallpaper and carefully apply it to the wall with the doorway, picture 4. Take care when applying, starting with the inside of the room working your way out, smoothing out any air bubbles. Fold the remaining paper at the end around the edge.
Once applied, cut out the doorway using a sharp kraft knife as shown in pictures 5 and 6.
Finally apply the green wallpaper in the same way, this time carefully folding around the corner of the room and folding the excess over the edge, picture 7. Cut out the two tabs at the top.
That complete part 1 of this issue.

Issue 36, Part 2

Ceiling Panel, Bathroom Cabinet Parts.
This is the second part of issue 36.
Assembling the Bathroom Cabinet (Upper Part).
Carefully separate the parts using a sharp kraft knife, picture 1. Next, sand all the edges as before, as this will make it easier painting and give a better finish, picture 2.
Paint all the parts along with the assembly you made in the previous issue, picture 3.
Once dry, use wood glue to fit the rear of the cabinet to the assembly from issue 35 as shown in picture 4.
Note: the top of the back part should have the engraved four-leaf clover facing the front.
Attach the lower shelf, this part has holes either side, picture 5. Fit the two turned posts into the holes using wood glue, picture 6, then attach the top shelf as shown in picture 7.
Glue the small side wall, using wood glue, followed by the opposite wall and top cover as shown in pictures 8 and 9.
Finally, attached the door and larger top cover to complete the assembly for this issue, picture 10.
