Hi All, BigGrin BigGrin

Well the next delivery "Pack 2" has made it here . This pack will cover issues 3 - 5. Cool

In Issue 3 we will construct the finger that ET uses to "Phone Home" and start the build of the eye motion mechanism.

All parts ...... Pic 1. You will also need the constructed items and unused parts from the previous pack.

So, issue 3 starts with the construction of ET`s finger that glows "RED" to phone home.

Fit the small domed cover lens over the LED. Pic 2. Then feed the wires from the LED through the bone of ET`s finger part 3-02. The wires and the LED cover need to be kept in place, so use three thin strips of tape (cellophane etc) to do the job. One to hold the lens in place and two more to stop the wires coming out of their location. Indicated by three blue arrows with all shown in Pic 3.

Now take the finger bone assembly and feed it (LED end first) into the finger skin part 3-01. Make sure that the bone is inserted so it follows the curvature of the skin and reaches the tip of the finger skin. Pic 4.

Time to test ET`s finger. Place two AAA batteries into the battery box (check polarity is correct). Connect the two wires from the battery box to the plug on the finger assembly (red to red and black to black). Switch the battery box on and ET should phone home with his glowing finger. Pic 5.

Note: switch the battery box off, disconnect the wires carefully and personally I have removed the batteries.

We now turn our attention to the eye movement mechanism.

Recover the assemblies and unused parts from Pack 1. Checking the orientation of the eyes, position them onto part 3-05 (eye slider mechanism) Pic 6. Then holding the parts in position fix the eyes to the slider using 2 x washers 2-08 and two screws F-TP as shown in Pic 7.

Invert the last assembly and position it onto Part 3-06 (Front head structure) Pic 8.Then from underneath, fix the eye mechanism to the front head structure using washers 2-07 and screws P-TP as in Pics 9 and 10.

That concludes Issue 3. Pic 11.

See you soon for the next issue, where we will extend further the eye control mechanism.

Hi All,BigGrin BigGrin

I`m back for the next ET update. Issue 4.

In this update we will add to the eye operating system and extend the head frame.

Parts .....Pic 1. You will also need the front head assembly (with with the eyes attached) from issue 3 and the face frame from issue 2.

Start with the head frame from the previous issue (part with the eyes attached) and position the spring holders (4-04 and 4-05) into position as per Pic 2. Next place the spring bracket (4-06) overs the holders and fix it in place using 2 x P-TP screws, Pic 3 and then connect the spring (4-07) between the two hooks on the spring holders. Pic 4.

Take the eyelid structure (4-01) and position it onto the square extensions of the head frame that are between the eyes. Pic 5. Then position the eyelid support (4-02) from underneath the eyelids so that it fully engages with the square extensions of the head frame Pic 6, securing it with 2 x P-TP screws as shown in Pic 7.

Take the rear head frame (4-03) and press it down until it fully engages it with the front section. Pic 8. Having made sure the parts are fully engaged secure them with 4 x P-TP screws Pic 9.

The last task for this update is to fix the face frame from Issue 2, over the eyes and attach it to the front head frame. Two round posts on the front head frame engage with the rear of the face frame and are secured with 2 x P-TP screws. Pic 10.

That`s it for this update, Pics 11 and 12 show the completion of this issue.

See you soon for the Issue 5 update. Cool

Hi All, BigGrin

This is the update for Issue 5, where we start the construction of the Servomotor for ET`s eyes.

TIP: Personally, I would not build this issue 5 until I received the next pack, as you are left with loose parts pending the addition of more parts later on.

As this is the Official Build, I will follow the order and safely store the end result in a sealed bag so that parts do not end up at the mercy of the rug monsters. The choice is yours.

Parts supplied.....Pic 1.

Start by inserting a shaft (5-04) into place in the base. Pic 2. Then place the gear (5-02) onto the shaft. Pic 3.

Now place the second shaft (5-04) into the base. Pic 4. Then add the second gear (5-03) onto that shaft, engaging the outer teeth with the smaller gear of the first one. Pic 5.

Finally, feed the wires from the motor through the gap in the base (Pic 6) and fit the motor into its seat. Pic 7.

If you have followed this update, store the construction safely until the arrival of the next pack. I will be back as soon as mine arrives.BigGrin
