Issue 41 Part 1

Contents
Door and Frame Parts x 12, Door Handles x 2, Door Pins x 2, Mattress Fabris, Fabric for Bedspread and Mattress..

Assembling the Bathroom Door

Picture 1
shows the parts for this issue.
Take the door top and door bottom, along with door side “B” the one with the hole for the handle and door side A, which has a curved edge, picture 2. Using wood glue, fix the door base, the narrower part, to door panel “A” as shown in picture 3. Next, attach the centre door panel, using wood glue to fix into the grooves. Fit the door top, followed by the side door panel “B”. Note – Make sure the handle hole is nearer the bottom. Make sure it is all square and allow to dry, picture 4.

Take the four pieces of the frame, picture 5, and apply glue to the tabs on the base and push into the two side pillars. Glue the top part carefully and square the frame as shown in picture 6 and allow it to dry before moving it. Picture 7 shows the two parts glued and dried ready for the next step.

Using quick drying glue, attach the two handles to the door and place one of the pins in the top of the door frame as shown in picture 8. Push the pin into the top of the frame, picture 9 and push the second pin in the base of the door frame, making sure the pin goes into the door, picture 10.

Picture 11 show the complete assembly.

Retrieve the first-floor assembly and apply wood glue to the edge of the assembled door frame. Push this into the doorway from the room with the pink wallpaper, picture 12. Allow this to dry.

Finally, take the last three parts of the reverse door frame, picture 13 and attach them with wood glue as shown in picture 14. Place the parts so they are fractionally over the door, this is to stop the door from opening this side.

That completes the assembly for part 1 of this issue, picture 15.

Issue 41 Part 2

Contents
Door and Frame Parts x 12, Door Handles x 2, Door Pins x 2, Mattress Fabris, Fabric for Bedspread and Mattress.

Assembling the Mattress and Bedspread for Moominpappa’s Bed.

Place the mattress in the centre of the mattress fabric and fold over the left and right edges and glue them in place with PVA glue, picture 1. Next fold the edges at the end as you would just like wrapping a present. Then fold it over onto the mattress and glue with PVA glue. Do the same with the opposite end. You may want to use a clamp or peg to hold it in place while the glue dries, picture 2.

Whilst that dries, take the bedspread fabric, and lay it on a flat surface and place the paper template in the centre. Trace around using a pencil, picture 3, then fold in the edges as shown in picture 4.
Straighten out the edges and place some double-sided tape around the edges as shown in picture 5. Peel off the backing of the double-sided tape and fold the edges of the fabric again, pictures 6 and 7.
As before with Moominmamma’s bed, make a 10mm and 5mm pencil line and fold as shown in picture 8, I used some double-sided tape to hold the folds in place.

Now place the mattress into the bed assemble we assembled in the previous issue, picture 9.
Place some double-sided tape along the side of the bed frame as shown in picture 10. Peel off the backing to the double-sided tape and secure the bedspread over the bed.
Picture 11 shows the completed bed.

That completes the assembly for part 2 of this issue.

Issue 42

Contents
Veranda Parts, Base, Front Wall, Supporting Wall, Pillow Fabric, Rocking Chair Parts x 3.

Picture 1
shows the contents of this issue.

Assembling the Veranda Base.
Apply wood glue to the veranda base and insert the tabs into the slots in the front wall as shown in picture 2. Apply wood glue to the slots in the supporting wall and push them into the base, picture 3. As you can see, I used a clamp to hold in place until dry.

Assembling the Rocking Chair.
Picture 4 shows the parts to attach. Using a kraft knife, separate the backrest and front legs.
Sand the inner slot of the seat to make an angle as shown in pictures 5 and 6. Slot one side of the seat into the front legs as shown in picture 7 and push down so the seat sits into the opposite slot.
Apply wood glue to the slots in the back of the seat and push the backrest in place, picture 8.

Assembling the Pillow for Moominpappa’s Bed
This should be very straight forward as this is the third one, we have made so far.
Fold the fabric in half. Next, unfold the fabric and lay it reverse side up. Lay the template, from issue 33, on the fabric and trace around the perimeter, picture 9.
Along the line of the outlined template, fold the edges.

Fold the edges of the fabric inwards on both the long sides and stick some 1cm double sided tape as shown in picture 10. Next, cut the edges of the fabric diagonally about 4mm. Now, peel off the backing on the tape and fold the shorter side inwards, shown here in picture 11.

Take a napkin, I used a piece of kitchen roll, and fold it so it is slightly shorter than the template and when pressed it is approximately 2mm thick. Peel off the rest of the backing to the double-sided tape and place the napkin inside. Carefully fold the whole assembly in half, pushing the napkin in with a pair of tweezers if necessary. Push the edges together around the fabric until it is firmly stuck down. Picture 12 shows the final assembly in place on the bed.

Picture 13 shows both Moominmamma’s and Moominpappa’s beds together.

That completes the assembly for this issue.

Issue 43

Contents
Veranda Parts, Floor, Left and Right Sides, Left and Right of Steps, 3 x Step Risers, Rocking Chair Parts 2 x Rockers and 2 x Armrests.

Picture 1 shows the contents of this issue.

Assembling the Rocking Chair.

With a kraft knife, detach both the armrests and rockers, picture 2. Take the chair assembly in issue 42 and apply wood glue to the rockers and attach them as shown in picture 3. Take the two armrests and attach them to the back of the chair and the top edge of the front leg using wood glue, picture 4. Sand the chair, once the glue has fully dried rounding off any edges. Now paint the chair with white paint, apply several coats allowing the previous coat to dry first, before applying another, picture 5.

Assembling the Veranda.
Take the two side panels of the veranda, along with the assembly you did in issue 42 and attach both sides with wood glue as shown in picture 6, making sure you have aligned both edges. The magazine tells you to attach the steps next, but I attach the floor as this would keep everything straight and square whilst the glue was drying, pictures 7 and 8. Next, attach the two side step panels, picture 9, Take the risers and using a kraft knife, cut the riser off, the one with no tabs. Sand the part on the edges and attach it to the side step panels as shown in picture 10.

That completes the assembly for this issue, picture 11.

Issue 44

Contents
Veranda Parts, Handrail Frames x 2, Post Decorations x 12, Banisters x 10, Tread A x 2, Tread B x 1, Dowel Rod, Posts x 3.
Picture 1 shows the contents of this issue.

Assembling the Veranda Steps

Take the tread A and B along with the steps left over from issue 43. Separate tread A from each other and smooth the edges, picture 2. Apply wood glue to the bottom of the stair base and fix tread A in place as shown in picture 3. Take the tread riser from issue 43 and glue it in place, picture 4. As before attach the second tread A and the rise the same as before, pictures 5 and 6. Now attach tread B to the top as shown in picture 7.

Assembling the Veranda Handrails
Separate the post decorations with a craft knife and smooth the edges, picture 8. Glue these onto the post as shown in picture 9.
Note: I used quick drying glue so they wouldn’t move whilst attaching the next in place.

Cut 6 x 1cm strips from the dowel rod supplied, picture 10.

Note: Do NOT make a mistake when cutting these, as you will not have any spare. What is left over will be used in the next issues, and you only have the right amount.

Place these dowels into the ends of the posts as shown in picture 11. Now glue in the banisters with wood glue and fix into the handrail as shown in picture 12. Glue the three posts on the ends, picture 13. Finally attach the top of the rails, carefully aligning the posts and banisters in place.

The magazine tells you to glue the handrail to the veranda base. I will do this once both parts have been completed as I will be making good the holes at the tops of the handrail and some painting will be necessary.

That completes the assembly for this issue, picture 14.

Issue 45 Part 2

Contents
Veranda Parts, Handrail Frames x 2, Post Decorations x 12, Banisters x 10, Parts for the Veranda Chair, Dowel Rod, Posts x 3.

Assembling the Veranda Handrails

Now the handrails have been assembled, I have applied some wood filler to the tops to fill in the holes in the top of the handrail as shown in picture 1. This was allowed to dry, before sanding it smooth and then painting it with white paint as shown in picture 2.

Before glueing these in place on the veranda, I sanded the top of the veranda base to give it the worn look as I did with the previous porch assembly. I used some blue paint to dry brush over some parts and highlighted around the sides of the veranda to give some blue tone variations to the paintwork.

I then glued the handrails into position.

That completes the assembly for part 2 of this issue, pictures 3, 4 and 5.
