Hi All, BigGrin

Well, pack 9 of the big Mustang has arrived. This pack covers issues 34 - 38 and this update for issue 34 will come in parts A + B due to the amount of pictures required. I will of course endeavour to post part B asap after part A.

So, lets start with Part A:

Parts supplied.....Pic 1. You will also need the the rear chassis section from issue 33.

Take parts 34D,F and G to the table. Place the left shock cylinder 34D into the support 34F and pass the smooth end of the pin 34G through both parts, Pic 2. Then using some pliers or similar, press the pin fully into position as in Pic 3.

The small assembly you have just made, now needs to fit to the chassis from Issue 33. This is a bit fiddley, so from my experience of the task in hand I will offer up some solutions.

First, acquaint yourself with the underside of the support 34F, noting the small pin arrowed in Pic 4, the large centre pin (circled) can only fit in the centre. Then look at Pic 5 for the position and orientation of the part. You not only have to position this assembly, but hold it in place while you fix it with a screw.

If you struggle, here are two other options to try.

Option 1: Place the piston 34E into the support 34D. This effectively lengthens the part to help placement.

Option 2: Use a pair of tweezers to hold the cylinder 34D and place it that way.

Ok, which ever option works for you Pic 6 is where you need to be. You now have to hold the assembly in position and fix it in place using a PS05 screw as shown in Pic 7.

That concludes Part A of issue 34. Part B coming very soon.

Hi Again, BigGrin

Here is the Issue 34 Part B update.

Hopefully not to be interrupted by dinner if I can do this quick enough. LOL

Parts are the ones left over from Part A`s update and the rear chassis is also needed.

With the rear shock support fitted in part A, now feed the piston 34E into the cylinder 34D as in Pic 1. POINT TO NOTE: The piston has a lug on its top end and this must engage correctly in the next step.

Now holding the piston 34E, position it under the central suspension plate 33D. Whilst holding the piston 34E underneath the plate 33D, you need to rotate the piston until the lug engages the plate. Then fix the piston and plate using a PS23 screw, all shown in Pic 2.

Having completed the shock assembly, we now turn to the brake and drum assembly for the same side.

Take the parts 34A and 34C and position them as shown in Pic 3. Noting the pins and holes in the parts, flip 34A onto 34C and press them together as in Pic 4.

Take the previous assembly and noting the position of the keyway, position it on the end of the axle. Pic 5. Then finally position the brake drum 34B over the brake parts, Pic 6.

That`s it for Part B, Pic 7. The instructions now tell you to remove and store the Brake Drum. Personally I can`t be doing with parts all over the place, so I used some "Low Tack" masking tape to keep parts in place. Pic 8. (Your choice)

See you soon for the next update, Issue 35.

Hi All, BigGrin

Here is the next update for issue 35, where we will fit the rear tyre with its inserts.

Parts supplied.....Pic 1.

Place one of the internal tyre parts 35B inside the tyre 35A, Pic 2 and then press it fully into the tyre as in Pic 3.

Then fit the second part 35B inside the tyre, making sure that the ends are an equal distance apart, Pic 4. Now you can press the internal clips 2 x 35C in place. When fully inserted they click into place, Pic 5.

That completes this update, Pic 6 and the tyre is now ready to have the wheel fitted in the next update.

Hi All, BigGrin

Back again with the update for Issue 36. This update will come in two parts, "A" where we fit the wheel to the rear tyre and "B" where the wheel is fitted to the rear chassis.

Part A

Parts supplied.....Pic 1, you will also need the tyre from Issue 35.

Start with the outer wheel trim 36B and insert through it from the inside face the tyre valve 36E, Pic 2. Press the valve fully into place so that it looks like Pic 3, on the outer face of the wheel trim. Turn the outer wheel trim back over, so you are looking at its inner surface again and fit the wheel mounting bolts 36C around the centre spindle making sure the notch in it engages the lug on the spindle, Pic 4. The outer face should now be the same as shown in Pic 5.

Now retrieve the tyre from Issue 35 and note the two small cut-outs in the inner clips (one shown) in Pic 6. Then fit the inner half of the wheel 36A into the tyre Pic 7 and make sure that both lugs on it fit into the slots in the inner clips (one shown) in Pic 8.

Finally, fit the outer wheel part into the tyre ( this also has two lugs to fit into the slots of the tyre clips) and connect the wheel halves using 5 x DS19 screws, Pic 9.

That concludes the first part of this update, Pic 10 and the second part will be coming very soon.

Hi All, BigGrin

Like I said, Part B coming soon.Cool

So parts left over from part A are: DS12 screws and the hub centre 36D. You will also need the rear chassis from issue 34, the brake drum 34B if you kept it separate and the wheel assembly from issue 36 part A.

At this point I am going to deviate from the printed instructions.

Explanation: The instructions tell you to fit the two halves of the brake assembly into the inside of the wheel, then fit the wheel and whole brake assembly onto the axle. The problem I encountered was getting the brake backplate to line up with the keyway on the axle.

My solution: Put the outer drum brake inside the wheel, locating it with its keyway, Pic 1. Then put the brake backplate on the axle, locating that on its keyway, Pic 2.

Now you don`t have to line up any keyways (slots and associated lugs), just position the wheel and drum over the axle and backplate, Pic 3. The wheel can now be secured to the axle using a DS12 screw, Pic 4. You can now tighten/loosen the DS12 screw to get the wheel rotation you are happy with.

Finally, when you are happy with the wheel rotation, place the magnetic hub centre 36D into the centre of the wheel where it will cover the DS12 screw, Pic 5.

That`s all for this update, Pic 6. See you all soon for issue 37.

Hi All, BigGrin

Ok here we go with the update for Issue 37, adding the left rear wheel arch (fender).

Parts supplied.....Pic 1, you will also need the rear chassis from the end of issue 36.

Bring the wheel arch 37A and rear chassis to the table, Pic 2, then position the arch as shown in Pic 3 and fix it in place using 3 x DS02 screws, Pic 4.

That`s all there is for this update, Pic 5.

I`ll see you soon for Issue 38 (the last in this pack) where we will start on the right hand rear suspension. ThumpUp

Hi All, BigGrin

It`s time for the last update for this pack of the Mustang, Issue 38. ThumpUp

In this update we start on the right rear suspension.

Parts supplied.....Pic 1. You will also need the rear chassis from Issue 37.

Take parts 38A and 38B and note the orientation shown in Pic 2. Keeping to that orientation, place the leaf spring inside the rear spring support and feed the smooth end of a pin 38E through the parts, Pic 3. Then press the pin fully into place as in Pic 4. To complete the leaf spring construction add the front spring support 38C to the other end and lock it in place with the second pin 38E, as shown in Pic 5. Your leaf spring should now be the same as in Pic 6.

Place the rear chassis upside down and locate the leaf spring in the three points shown in Pic 7. Now fix the two supports (from the other side of the chassis) using 2 x PS05 screws as in Pic 8.

Finally, position the shock absorber plate 38D onto the leaf spring and secure it using 2 x DS01 screws, Pic 9.

That`s it for this issue (Pic 10) and ends the pack. I`ll see you all asap after the next pack arrives. Cool
