This stage of the build is mainly getting decking planked and added to the keel.
Stern keel reinforcements added    Foremost keel reinforcements added. Forward upper deck planking started.     One of the numerous laser alignment checks.   Upper decks temporary interface with front and rear decks sections   Upper decks finally fitted and aligned.
Now ready for two coiats of stain and finally, a coat of matt varnish.

I have to admit that after the finish of Victory I felt the need to build something different.
I went off and built wooden cars and Occre tram kits for a while.
I mentioned earlier that this kit had been sitting under my bench since early 2020 and
the lure was so strong that I couldn't resist getting started. I'm really enjoying it so far
although there have been some shocks including the quality of wood for planking. I will admit
that I am using my own instead but the other details, particularly the masts, guns, gun ports and
sails are top quality. Looking ahead I can see that some of the deck grilles and stairs may
get replaced. But I love being back ship building. My diaries are not the best I know, normally
just a series of pics in a fairly chronological order. Apologies for my ineptness in this area.

Quite a bit of work completed on this posting.
Began the first layer of hull planking but didn't use the kit material as it was VERY brittle and split at the slightest touch.  First layer of planking almost complete.     Solid bow block added and started to create the desired shape.  Out of synch with instructions but I began fitting the wales    Gallery lower planking redone.   Began laying the second lower hull planking. Again very brittle but I persevered and thankfully there were enough strips for me to complete the task.      Second planking complete and ready for a light sanding.    The first coat of matt varnish applied. There will be four applications altogether. Wales painted. Had quite a few ares of "bleed" which took some time to correct.   
The final (fourth) coat of matt varnish applied.The pic does not do it justice in my opinion.

The vast majority of the photos are self explanatory and need no further comment from me.       The gallery side sections are, in my opinion, probably the worst thing I've done on this ship. After strippng back twice I have given up and decided what will be will be.

Hi Chris, What a wonderful build this is becoming, looking through your build I can only say this is a top class build plus the fact Forum needs a ship like this to follow well done Chris keep it up. I was paticulary interested in the way you scratch build the gunports in Balsa that was cool, also the second planking top work again, is that 0.5 Mahogany to me that has sanded up a treat looks great with the varnish applied, looking forward to seeing more of your build and how you it. Thanks for your kind comments. All much appreciated.
The gun port templates were a necessity I'm afraid as I managed to place the lower three on the floor "for safe keeping" and then rolled my desk chair over them. The process I used was to painstakingly try and pair all the split pieces together and quickly realised that this was pointless. So I removed the already installed opposite templates, and traced them onto a piece of balsa wood. To strengthen them once cut, I laid tissue paper soaked in white glue mix on both sides and when dry I cut out the portholes. This gave my new templates a lot more strength.
However, when I started planking, I soon realised that I had a difference of alignment on each side of the ship. Not much but enough to require a bit of adaptation as I went. In fact even now, I notice the difference of height particularly position of the upper deck gun barrels through the port holes. Hopefully this will not be detectable once the rigging is in place. I notice this "problem" but hopefully others won't (he said!)
As for the second planking on the hull, yes it's 0.5mm thick mahogany and required quite a bit of patience to get as close as I have managed. Also, sanding already wafer thin timber strips without going through them was a challenge. I am pleased with the end result of the lower hull though and a coat of matt varnish has also given it a bit more protection.
