STAGE 92:

Front left wing, suspension and steering.

Parts are included in this stage to replace the front coil springs with slightly shorter ones, and slightly more detailed steering rack.
Attached below is an explanation of how to do these upgrades.
Unfortunately there is far more involved than the printed instructions specify.
If you try to follow them, you will not be able to put the shock absorbers back, and the steering rack is impossible to remove.

I have studied the model closely to come up with this work-round but I have NOT undertaken the work.
Once completed, you cannot see the differences.

Whether you choose to do the modifications is up to you, considering the minimal differences it will make.
This is totally at the builder’s discretion but bear in mind there is a risk of stripping screw threads or even worse, breaking screws.

Pic 1: To replace the shock absorber springs.
Place the car upside down and remove the screws indicated.
Do this on both sides.
This is very awkward as the steering rack is in the way.
WARNING – Once these screws are removed there is NO turning back as the shock absorbers will move so the screws cannot be replaced.

Pic 2: Remove the two screws indicated.
Again, on both sides of the car.
You are supposed to be able to lift the suspension arm and the steering rack to be able to tilt the upright/hub out of the way.
This cannot be done with the central lower subframe in the way – you need to take the whole subframe assembly off.

Pic 3: The new steering rack beside the existing one to show the slight detail differences.
If you look, you can see the subframe goes over the steering rack already fitted, preventing you from lifting it off the pivots on the hub/uprights.

Pic 4: This shows the subframe that needs to be removed.

Pic 5: Remove the screw indicated on both sides of the chassis.

Pic 6: The 3 x screws shown here need to be removed. Again on both sides.
You will now be able to remove the subframe and steering rack.

Pic 7: Undo the screws holding the brake vents in place on both sides and remove them.

Pic 8: Undo the screws holding the outer wheel arches in place, and remove them.
With the car the right way up, you can now undo the top screws holding the hub/upright in place on the upper suspension arm.

Pic 9: Remove the screws holding the tops of the shock absorbers in place.
Carefully ‘wiggle the hub/uprights out, remove the shock absorbers and dismantle them to fit the new springs.

Reassembly is a reverse of all the above but make sure you fit the base of the shock absorber into the lower arm first.
Fix with the 2 screws shown in pic 1.
If you try to do this later in the reassembly you will not be able to fit the screws.

Pic 10: Fit the front wing inner supports 92B and fix with 3 x BM screws.

Pic 11: Store safely for now.
