had a slight problem with one of the tools in the kit provided with issue no 4 the circlip plyers, the lower prong [in the picture] is bent at the end[ about 6mm from the end] thus there not much use. but the akagi set seems fine arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Thanks MWG but as my dad used to say preperation preperation [ he was a cabinet maker] saves you time in the long run, and i think im going to do the tower again as im not happy with it. but thanks for the kind coments and encouragment Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Its a must with all the metal bases, simply because there would be some very visible, wide and deep joint lines. Good luck with the metal-working

Thanks Mr T yes your right about the gaps in the base plates wide enough to park a bike in but with filler and filing a reasonable job can be achieved Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi MWG For the smaller areas /joints i use MDD green putty and the larger areas im using P38 easy sand car filler [the pinkish looking one] as its more economical, hope this helps Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Ok heres the lower planking finished but not sanded as yet so its a warts and all diary and yes i made a few misstakes but not too bad as its over 10 years since i last planked a model , i used all my off cuts left from the previous planks that i added [and yes i know its says to save them in the build instructions].But i think il have more than enuf in the supplys to come to do all thats needed to finish the hull ,So its a good rough sanding thats next on the agender Regards Andy arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi Andy,
Build looking great, I've struggled a bit with filling some of the gaps in the metal components, maybe me being to scared to add so much filler!
I've tried to source the Squadron Green Putty & getting an average price of £5 per tube (delivered) does that sound about right? Seems a bit pricey.
Thanks
Wilfy

Hi Wilfy thanks for the kind words,i paid £5.99 for my green putty and around the same for the p38 so at £5.00 its a bargain also the green is best used on small joints [ like gaps in the bridge structurs ect]the other thing is you only use half a pea size blob of green at a time as it goes along way in coverage . For larger areas i use P38 easy sand as its more economical cost wise, if u look at my metal parts above u can see where iv used the green and the p38 also dont be too fussy about using alot of filler as long as you spread it evenly and in several thin coats [ if needed] both are easy to sand down afterwards regards Andy Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .

Hi all Just wondering if im the only builder of the Yamato as post on the other diarys have dried up it would be nice to see other peoples progress aswell as my own and Mr T's official build but hey ho upwards and onwards. A few more pics of the rough sanding finished, when i recieve the hull templates it will be shaped to the corect profile. Not a brilliant job but no gaps as such and no filler used as yet [a few small spots might need some in the final profiling].My next instalment of the akagi is in the post so the next update will be in that diary Regards Andy arpurchase attached the following image(s): Current builds:-C57,Zero, Lamborghini Countach, Caldercraft HMS Agamemnon,Robi,R2-D2, MFH Cobra .
