 Great photos there bigmal0 and looking like a very nice build of a great car!! Sorely tempted by this kit myself. Are the parts all standard to the kit or have you used any aftermarket upgrades or made any modifications to it ?? Certainly looks VERY cool !!  Cheers ... Kev

Hello Kevin, It's a nice kit but needs some care to get things to work. I have turned quite a few bits on the lathe because the kit parts were a bit sloppy, nothing new in that but I prefer to use Ali where possible. It's been on my pile of kits for ages and having started the Mclaren and DB5 I thought it a good opportunity Ito get the GT 40 out.

Hi bigmal0, Thanks for the info mate, much appreciated. I guessed you may have done some mods, as some of the parts look way too good to be standard parts, so well done you for taking something and improving it, looks excellent. I have heard before from someone on here that the parts are quite a tight fit and that even a slightly excessive layer of paint can mean things don't quite fit together properly, is that right ?? I note that you say some parts are sloppy, do you mean a sloppy fit or sloppy quality ?? I must admit, I am always envious of people with a lathe and the necessary skills to use one, as so many nice detail parts can be made that way and I agree with you about the look of nicely turned ali parts, especially on a large scale car model, makes all the difference with things like induction trumpets, etc. ?? I will continue to follow your build mate and hope that you keep putting up the pics.  Cheers ... Kev.

As we all know some manufacturers produce clean sharp parts that are great to use but others leave parts rather rudimentary and it's these That I tend to work on, provided they are tubular so can be made on a lathe. I also use Lithplate for other parts such as clips plates pipe clips etc, very easy to fashion andLooks great.

Hi bigmal0, Some excellent work there mate and just love looking at your photos, so keep em coming. Myself, I like anything that is a model, whatever the subject might be, but when a decent modeller goes to town on a large scale model car, motor modelling just looks the best to me and I have to say that in some of your photos it is VERY difficult to tell that this is a model and not full size. Love it mate and very well done on what you are doing. You are making it really hard for me to resist this kit now, but I have to for the sake of the kids getting something to eat instead !! Thanks for the comments, however I dont think this kit is worth starving the family. After looking at the latest two offerings which Im building the quality is much better. There are a lot of fundemental errors with the GT40, in particular the tyres!! and they cant be rectified. I have built the Pocher 911 Porsche and again a lot of money and a LOT of work to finish bigmal0 attached the following image(s):

Hi bigmal0, Yeah, I have heard elsewhere that the tyres are pretty naff on this model. Also that there were some problems with parts fitting, plus lots of awful chrome plated parts and the photoetch parts having a strange film on them which is hard to remove but still nice to have a 1/12 GT40 kit available (the ONLY one) so gotta say well done to Trumpeter for that at least ?? The Pocher Porsche looks like a nice kit and I think most of their cars take a lot of work since they are so detailed, but well worth it in the end methinks. I know they are very expensive but when you consider how many hours of modelling they allow you to enjoy, still good value I think and definitely cheaper than playing golf !!!
