hi all
this might be a silly question but what would you folks recomend to use as the wood filler? does it need to be flexable to allow for shrinkage. I am going to paint the model so it needs to be able to take the paint.BigGrin

Hi in my opinion the best filler to use is RONSEAL MULTI PURPOSE WOOD FILLER obtain PINE NATURAL this filler is all so recommended by MR T and you can not get a better recommendation than that. plus the product works, and it sands with no problemBigGrin Cool

In all my joinery, if filler is required I tend to use 2 part ronseal wood filler as it is strong. However quite often, especially if colour matches are required then you can't beat the aforementioned sawdust and pva, just apply pva to area to be filled and then sand the surrounding area to auto mix the sanding dust created with the glue.

Either I would say would be perfectly good for this build as would the filler recommended by Mr T.

However I couldn't say I'd risk using polyfiller. Its not really designed for wood, definatly doesnt flex and will over time crack and probably fall out. I don't even use polyfiller in walls and I don't think its very good.

Sorry my 2p!

Not sure if this would help but when it came to filling small gaps (very small), I put PVA glue into the gaps and then sanded the surrounding area with a fine sandpaper. The resulting dust stuck to the glue inbetween the planks and the excess glue was sanded off. However i'm no expert but I sure someone will correct me if i'm doing something incorrect.

I have tried mixing wood filler (wilkinsons home brand) with 50/50 PVA with good results.

Some fillers I have used in the past tend to fall out of the smaller gaps when sanding.
