Hi Team

I have just started marking the gun ports out but have run into a problem!

It says to start at the bow end frame and work back towards the stern making 15mm ports with a 45mm spacing between each one. I have marked out the first ports and now I am hitting a frame. I have looked at the instructions but can't see where I am going wrong.

Alright mate,

You will hit one or two of the ribs towards the rear. Don't worry about it just cut out the Port the cut the amount off the rib on the inside, leaving the rest in place. As long as each port is 15mm and has a 45mm gap then that is ok.

Hope that helps. Look at this link..

Thanks for the info and link Chris. I have been following your build and love the results!!

I have marked the first gun port level with frame one but as I progress each port gets closer to the rib - If I continue to mark them I will end up cutting completely through one or more ribs.

Looking at your images I think I can see where I have gone wrong. I have put the first port against the first rib but I think I should have started at the second rib.

I will re-measure tomorrow and check the alignment.

Could you measure the distance from the 6mm gap for the stem and your first gun port (not the one that you are using a dummy cannon for) please? This would help me a lot.

Thanks Chris

Dave

Hi Riff Raff,

The measurement is 130mm from stem to first port(not the Bridle port).

With that you will only have 12 ports down each side. The original ship had 34 guns. between both decks. If you do the same way as mine(13 each side) which is the correct way to the original ship the bridle port is 40mm from stem. 15mm port. then 130mm from stem 15mm port with a gap of 45mm between each 15mm port should mean you only hit one rib completely and a couple just need trimming.

Thanks Chris - That is very helpfull.

I assume the lack of ports won't affect anything later on in the build?

Hi,
In which way do you mean, lack of ports. If you are reffering to missing the bridle port out it will not matter as the dimensions I gave you are taken from the original ships plans. You install guns in all ports on lower deck and 6 either side on the upper deck. See my build for referal.

Brilliant Chris.

Thanks for the help mate and I have cut the first two. I just really didn't want to start cutting until I was 100% sure
