Now the season has finished with Jenson a worthy second place in the championship to Sebastian Vettel, can we now all agree who is the number one Maclaren driver. Both the results and his fighting finish to the Brazilian Grand Prix, place him head and shoulders above Lewis Hamilton who really should recognise his place in the team and support Jenson to become the 2012 World Champion.

A fitting end to the season for Button, his tally of 270 points was 14 more than Vettel's winning total last season, which clearly show's Red Bull's dominance, and it looks like the ghost of failing to finish is long gone, 2012 should be an interesting season Cool

First of all, yes congratulations to Jenson on a superb season.

For all you guys out there who seem to have some sort of morbid desire to write off Lewis, saying he is the number 2 driver in Mclaren is ludicrous. He has had his first bad season out of 5. 2007 he missed the championship by 1 point, his first season, that is no mean feat in your first season, irrespective of the car being driven, his second year he wins it, and of course, everyone was saying how great he was, the last 2 years Mclaren have been off the boil but Lewis still managed to be there or there abouts, even having to deal with that other prima donna who threw his teddy in the corner every time lewis beat him. This year he has had a turbulant year, both on and off the track. Why dont you people give him a break, no one is perfect all of the time. 1 bad year in 5 is a pretty good record, there are drivers in formula 1 both past and present that never amounted to anything and didnt have to put up with this amount of stick. Anyone who believes that Lewis will not be back and back stronger are completely deluded. For the first half of this season, he out drove and out qualified Jenson on numerous occasions. Yes he can be a little impetuous, but the guy is a racer and if you look at that grid, there arnt too many of them on there. Give the man a break, he still finished 5th, despite his awful year, he's British and we should be proud of him, after all, we are building a car in tribute to OUR great champion.

By the way, this is not a poke at anyone in particular, just fed up of Lewis getting so much stick when we should be supporting him.

BigGrin Hi Blackspear,

I understand where you are coming from and accept what you say is right and based on fact. I don't think in all honesty, that the majority of people on here ACTUALLY enjoy having a dig at Lewis, though a small minority obviously do see it as a personal mission to slag him off at every opportunity ?? No, Lewis is a great racer and should be given due credit for his massive achievements both in F1 and all of his previous formulae - the boy has done good !! It's just that this season Jenson has done better !!

Personally, I prefer Jenson as a driver over Lewis, it's just the way I feel about things and I am entitled to my choice of hero and personal opinion on other drivers, as is anybody else, but if anybody were to slag Jenson off on a regular basis then my normal reaction would be to assess them as an unintelligent nobody who doesn't have enough respect for others, to allow them there own opinions.

What I am saying is if they wind you up with their constant derogatory comments towards Lewis, then just ignore them and get on with being a loyal Lewis fan - they aren't worth the time !! BigGrin

BigGrin Hi Paul,

Nobody in this thread is 'slating' Lewis, as they are doing nothing more than congratulating Jenson on his success in the championship !! If you see that as a slating then I think you are mistaken and you need to read my post #6 and understand that everyone has a right to an opinion ??

Personally, I am building the McLaren because it is a car from my favourite team and not because Lewis drove it !! There are several drivers past and present who I am not keen on and if they had driven that car I would still build it because it is a McLaren and no other reason !!

Hi Kev,

I totally agree with all that you have said, and if I am honest I have cringed, shouted at the Tv and other things not printable about Lewis this year, however, I actually like both drivers equally as much. What I dont like is the constant back biting that constantly seems to get channelled at Lewis all the time, so I made my point. I suppose its a British thing, doesn't matter how good your particular sport hero/hero's are, they will never be good enough in most of our eyes, everyone is happy when they are at their best and winning, when they lose, well seems like the chanting for the death penalty begins lol.

BigGrin Hi Blackspear,

Yeah, I know what you mean mate and yes I think it is a British thing. If Lewis wins the title next year he will have a whole load of new fans but if he doesn't then I fear the slagging off will just continue. I think it is an inbuilt desire with the Brits to have a British winner and they will get behind whichever British driver is doing it at the time !! Something we have to live with here in Blighty I'm afraid - part of our make up ?? As far as I'm concerned I don't care who it is or what nationality, as long as people win with grace and dignity.I am glad Vettel won it this year because at the end of the day he deserved it and he did it in a dignified way, so good luck to him, I say. Which is why I never liked Schumacher, though I am warming to him a little now that he has mellowed a bit, but he still retains a few of the dirty tricks from his old days !!

Whoops, I can see a bullet headed my way from a Schumacher fan now !!LOL LOL

Cheers mate ... Kev. BigGrin
