We have been told that the gallery/gallery supports have now been completed - at least on Tomic's weekly build. Does this mean that we will not be getting the victory name plate, either in the form of a metal plate,or perhaps,a stencil of sorts. Will we be left to our own devices to apply the name - surely not!

I'll ask the question, though initially this info may be of interest to you...
An order was issued in 1771 that ships should have their names painted on the second counter, in letters a foot high, and be enclosed in a compartment.
The order was amended in 1772 and names were to be painted without a compartment in letters as large as the counter would permit, this was the fashion at the time of Trafalgar.
The practice of painting names on the stern was dropped after about 1815.
The restored Victory had her name in a compartment for many years, as evidenced by older photos.
In 2005 in preparation for the bicentenary celebrations and in light of fresh information, a number of features were changed, and the nameplate altered to as it is seen today.
I'll update you as soon as the info is to hand

if nothing is available from deagostini i should be able to provide letters or a stencil for anyone, i've got a plotter/cutter that i use for print work. i'm sure i can provide letters the right size. they would be as thin as masking tape, the letters are sticky backed and made of the same stuff as logos you see on vans and cars, so the adhesive strength is very good. if you don't want the letters you can weed them away and use the rest as a stencil. if i have time tomorrow i'll run some off. has anyone got a pic of how they used to look on victory. Come on you Jimmies

thanks for the pic jase. looking at the colour of the lettering i would say that a stencil would be best, as getting an exact match would be nigh on impossible without getting it specially ordered, which would cost a small fortune for the size required. the one problem that may occur with a stencil is when you remove it, as the vinyl is designed for long term use the sticky side is very sticky, so care would have to be taken on removal, as it may remove some of the paint from wherever it has stuck. i've been thinking about how to avoid this, and i think the best way is to put the stencil on after the gallery has been varnished. this will provide a much crisper edge to the lettering and reduce any chance of the paint bleeding through the edges of the stencil. i've checked the font and have found one to match almost exactly, bearing in mind i can see from jase's picture that the real lettering has been hand painted, getting the curve is not a problem at all. i can't get any pics up until the weekend, as i now need some help to get the plotter set up. i found this on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/..._Portsmouth_um_1900.jpg
so obviously as tomick has said the name plates have changed over the years Come on you Jimmies

This appears not to be the DA build. - much more detail. Is the nameplate available as a stand alone part,if so who is the supplier? I have resigned myself to the fact that the nameplate is not part of the DA build.
