Hi Guys
Been out of the loop for a while but still collecting issues and trying to find a window to catch up with the build but was just wondering thoughts on what the finished model (obviously dependent on the quality of the build) would be worth?
My guesss is it will probably only be worth a fraction of what we've paid for it, unless it's kept for 20 years, any ideas guys?

It wont be worth anything mate unfortunately. These things just aren't. Sorry for the disappointment but these models are built for enjoyment by enthusiasts with a passion for the model they build.

 Hi Cotterel, Please understand that this is not a criticism, just a personal thought, but I'm not sure why anyone would want to collect something for 85 weeks, build it and then sell it on?? Surely the reason for doing something like this is because it is a desired model that the builder would want to keep and display ?? Seems a crazy thing to take on otherwise at £7.99 per issue and I am sure that as others have said already the sale price will always be way lower than what has been spent in buying the parts to build it and also the hours spent in building it have to be taken into account when valuing it's worth ?? I know you haven't actually said that you were thinking of selling it when complete and were just wondering about value, as you have said, but these things rarely increase in value over time. Kev

I'm sorry if I've offended anyone with this question.
I am well aware Mr T that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and anything is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it. However, I still feel that over time items (even model cars- and I have many F1 models) will appreciate in value, I have some that make this case clear.
This is my first De-Ag build and whilst I realise the satisfaction comes from building the model itself, I would also like to think there is some end value to it.
I am not looking to make a profit, i was just wondering, with everyones previous experiences, if there is likely to be some value in the finished article.

I would guess that a year or so after completion, there wont be 'several' popping up on EBay.
I'd hazard a guess that someone keen to get the car would go to maybe £200-250.
I know I would, but I doubt I'd pay more.
I'll be super-detailing mine when I start it (next year, after I've collected ALL the parts) and it WONT be for sale.
Google some of the Hachette 'Flying Scotsman' models that cost over £650 to build. They usually go for around £250-300. (Mind you, to be fair, it was GARBAGE)

Hi Cotterel, I don't think any offence has been taken by any of those who have replied to your question, I know I certainly didn't, as it is a perfectly understandable question to ask, even if I don't see the logic in selling something that has taken so long to acquire ?? That was the only point that I personally was trying to make, so if you feel it was me in particular who was offended, then don't worry mate, I wasn't in the least - everything is cool with me !!   To put a simple answer in a nutshell for you, you may well get good money for the McLaren in years to come if you want to sell it and I hope that you do as it is a nice model, but as Mr T rightly said it is only worth what another person wants to pay and partworks have a history of NOT being worth what they cost to build, when trying to sell them on in later years. I hope that answers your question ?? Kev

Thanks for this fellas.
I also have no intention of selling my finished Mclaren, as I have never sold any of my other F1 models, just nice to know that there are others as passionate about the sport as myself.
Deviating from the topic slightly, does anyone have any pics or links to pics of finished models from Japan, or is it too early?

I know what you mean about the value of it, as we assume there is a value of course, but how much would be up to the market place.
I built a 'full size' car ( as per avatar ) and it took 1500 hrs over two years and 20k cost, worth now ??? don't know, not selling so doesn't matter really.
Don't know about the Japan finished article but sure someone on here will know.

F1 website lists built model at this scale at around £2500 and they are professionally built - do not expect anything like that for this, unless of course you are the one that built these. You will aslo be subject to a lot of scrutinity on thye built model and any marks will be highlighted.

Haha. Suppose i should have guessed someone would post the promo pics! LOL
The scrubbed look on the tyres definitely looks better than the shiny surface they are supplied with!
