I thought it was about time time I shared my build which is rather slow going at the moment. The pictures don't really show all the mistakes i have made. Ongoing Builds Deag HMS Victory Deag Soveriegn of the Sea

Hi Calv Looking good so far. The fact that you have recognised a mistake and repaired it is all that counts. We all make mistakes as long as you enjoy the build, that is what is important. This is not a race but the advantage is learning from the fellow builders that are ahead. Happy building Rgds, Hans "It's okay to make mistakes. mistakes are our teachers - they help us to to learn, even if it is painfully" Current Build: Endeavour Cross section,D51 Completed: HMS Victory Under the bench: Endeavour x 2,Sovereign of the Seas, Akagi and The Black Pearl!HMS Victory Cross Section

Hi Calv...great to see your build mate, you have done a real good job!! We all make mistakes too, and I have made a few on this build alone...By the look of your last picture of the stern..I would like to point out that it looks as though you may have to sand the last frame (below the gallery) a bit more until it is level with the vertical section of the false keel...Hope you have as much enjoyment with you build as we have, keep the pictures coming... Current Builds: Deagostini HMS Victory: Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas. Completed Builds: Del Prado: HMAS Bounty: Hachette: RMS Titanic: Del Prado: Cutty Sark...

Well the mistakes keep coming this is one major learning curve, but fun. completed cutting the first row of gun ports no problems there, but the second row showed up the problem with using cheap pva glue, the planks come off. Decided to stop and order some decent glue ordered some proper glue from CMB, At least it gave us a chance to start the longboat which so far no mistakes. I will carry on with the planking but not cutting out the gun ports until the port sides go in, hopefully make the repair work slightly easier to do. The longboat so far. All comments are welcome as well as any tips on this stage of the build. Calv Ongoing Builds Deag HMS Victory Deag Soveriegn of the Sea

Hi Calv Looking good, shame about the glue though. Remember you are going to hit a problem with the position of the gun ports on the upper gun deck. Have a look here for the solution from a great model builder. Gun Port PositionHope this helps. John

Thanks for that, that is one advantage of being so far behind. Got the glue sorted now so I can carry on with the planking over the next week or so. Ongoing Builds Deag HMS Victory Deag Soveriegn of the Sea

Well it has been a long time since I put the Vic to oneside and then never got back to it, to many other things got in the way the usual family and work. I'm happily back to it now and have started to sort its problems i had with the planking and gunports, I figured I would be better off starting again so I took all the planking off. With this it has given me the chance to put balsa on the bow and stern and also to fair the hull better, that was mistake number 1 I hadn't faired the hull very well. Hopefully now that I have basically restarted it should go a lot smoother that was one big lesson with any luck I hopefully have theplanking done by end of the month. Looking good mate, keep up the good work. Making mistake is all part of the learning curve, just remember to take your time and measure twice, cut once. Jay _____________________________________

Hi Calv, Nice to see another build taking shape. As Jay said in an earlier post, take your time, less haste more speed as they say, and it does help if you don't kick it too often regards Alan England expects that every man will do his duty.

The first 6 rows now on looking a lot better than the first attempt, also started to shape the stern planking I needed to alter the planking slighty at the stern one side is about 1mm higher than it should be, not a major problem was rectified by not tapering one side which has equalled them up nicely. I'm not going to do the gunports until I have done most of the upper planking I beleive that it would be easier for me that way. I have decided that I will be going down the copper plate route any comments welcome Ongoing Builds Deag HMS Victory Deag Soveriegn of the Sea

Thanks for that, it certainly paid off by shelving it for a few months if it wasn't for this forum and its members it would of been at the tip by now. The plan is to have the planking finnished by christmas then concentrate on the sots for a while before returning to copper plate the hull. Ongoing Builds Deag HMS Victory Deag Soveriegn of the Sea

Will be following as I am collecting all the issues before starting my build.... .. Keep posting the pics.... Reagrds Alan

I agree with Andy, as long as you having fun, its going to be a beautiful built. I am on the SOTS, fit, remove and try again. I have emphathy with you to re-do your planking. Double planking of the SOTS has a sneaky way to sub consciously tells you its allright to do rubbish planking, because the mistakes will be covered by the next layer. As for the Vic, keep strong and keep posting Marcel "Rather try and fail than had failed to try".Sovereign of the Seas Model Space forum: Marcel's build
