Issue 41 - Contains damper parts & screws, and has instructions for stage 1 of assembling the damper unit.

Identify the parts needed on the sprue for this stage of the build and note their cutting points as shown in the steps, but leave the parts on the sprue until you need them.

Start by separating the inertia damper from the sprue and carefully store for later use.

Attaching the rods to the torsion bar cranks - Separate the two torsion bar cranks from the sprue, insert a type 'A' screw partway through the larger hole of the forked end. Separate the crank relay rods from the sprue, then secure them into the cranks as shown in the steps taking care to note the orientation.

The cranks should mirror each other and the rods should be free to pivot.

Preparing the torsion bar - Separate the two torsion bar halves from the sprue, fit them together (without glue) as shown in the steps to identify the edges which need to be scraped of silver paint.

Separate the three torsion bar brackets from the sprue, taking care to note the order they are in on the sprue. Although they al look similar, they are slightly different and it is very important not to mix them up.

Assembling the torsion bar - Keeping the brackets in order, place the two cranks between them, with the relay rods to the rear and the open ends of the 'U' shaped ends facing inwards.
Then with the help of masking tape assemble the brackets and cranks as shown in the steps and apply glue where indicated.

Assembling the damper - Remove the damper spring, damper rod and end from the sprue, slide the spring over the rod followed by the damper end bracket, insert a screw into the hole in the centre of the damper rod. Tighten until a few threads are left showing, do not over tighten.

That's it for this week, carefully store the assemblies.

Issue 43 - Contains the left & right-hand cockpit frame, side protector mount and screws; and has instructions for Stage 3 of the damper unit assembly - Attaching the crank linkages.

You will need the parts sprue provided with issue 42., the assembly noted below is for the right-hand side of the crank linkage.

Attaching the crank linkages - Carefully cut the rear suspension bracket from the sprue, remove the moulding flash as shown in the steps and scrape the paint around the shaft bracket mounting holes.

Cut the left shaft bracket from the sprue and test-fit onto the suspension bracket, with the projecting lug outwards as shown in the steps. Remove the shaft bracket and apply glue around the mount hole, fit the bracket ensuring that a type 'C' screw fits though it.

Take the rear left damper crank (rear) and fit its projecting boss into the suspension bracket. Insert the rear suspension crankshaft and then screw the type 'C' screw into the end of the shaft to secure it, taking care not to overtighten it.

Take the left damper crank (front) and fit it onto the shaft, ensuring that the flat inner face of the cranks face each other and that the notches match up.

Pair up the front and rear left torsion bar crank halves. Two faces are mostly flat and will contact each other. When the two halves meet, the small pin near the tip will fit into the corresponding hole. Scrap the paint off the meeting faces so the two halves can be glued together.
Fit the rear half onto the shaft, ensuring that the notches engage, then apply glue to the scraped areas, and fit the front half onto the shaft, and ensure that the pin engages with the hole.

Pair up the front and rear left inertia damper crank halves. Scrape the paint off the area shown, then insert a type 'A' screw through the projecting boss on the front half of the crank.

Fit the rear half onto the shaft, with the area from which you scraped the paint facing outwards. Fit the front half onto the shaft and lightly tighten to hold it in place.

Rotate the front half to expose the scraped surface and apply ABS glue. Rotate the front half into alignment and hold the halves together until the glue has set. Make sure that all the notches are in alignment, then tighten the screw, being careful not to overtighten.

Carefully separate the torsion bar crank bracket from the sprue as shown on page 14 of issue 42. ensuring that you don't damage the fixing on the forked end or the protruding pin at the opposite end.
Carefully clip the forked end onto the end of the torsion bar crank, noting which way up it goes and ensuring that the two pins inside the fork engage with holes in the crank.

Repeat the process to assemble the right-hand side as a mirror image of the left., if you wish, any visible sprue cut points upon the parts can be disguised with silver paint.

That's it for this week, carefully store the assembly and parts receoved with this issue.

Future issues:

Issue 44 - Contains the cockpit base, left & right underbody connectors and screws; and has instructions for Stage 4 of the damper unit, fitting the suspension unit to the engine/gearbox, assembling the cockpit frames and fitting the cockpit base.

Fit the suspension unit to the engine/gearbox - Take the engine/gearbox and the rear suspension crank assembly constructed at 43.
Identify the mounting points and start by inserting the tips of the inertia dampers into the holes carefully lowering the assembly and at the same time, easing the ends of the two suspension pushrods into the forked ends of the damper cranks., secure the unit in place with three screws.

Insert a screw from the rear of the forked end of the left damper crank screwing it through the eye of the suspension pushrod to its location point at the opposite side, then repeat at the right-hand suspension pushrod.

Assembling the cockpit frames - Take the two halves of the cockpit frame supplied with issue 43, locate the four mounting pins and corresponding sockets and dry fit together to familiarise yourself with the contact points. Apply glue and tape the assembly together and set aside for the adhesive to set firmly.

Take the side protector mount supplied with issue 43 and match it up to the rear of the cockpit and note the two screw fixing holes and make sure that the peg goes into the slot as shown. Secure the unit with two of the silver screws from 43 (noted as type 'A', though the steps in 44 note them as type 'C').

Fitting the cockpit base - You need four type E screws, then take the cockpit base and check it for any burrs to ensure a snug fit.
Locate the four mount points and screw holes, then carefully insert the cockpit base into the cockpit and secure with the four screws.

Fitting the underbody connectors - Take the underbody completed at issue 40, match up the left underbody connector with the widest part of the curved rib and its three mount points,. holding the underbody connector in place, turnover the underbody and insert three type 'E' screws, tighten them enough to secure the parts together and that the screws are flush. Repeat form the opposite underbody connector.

That's it for this week, carefully store the underbody and cockpit assemblies.

Future issues:

Issue 45 - Contains the left & right lower side pod cowls and screws., and has instructions for Stage 5 of assembling the damper unit - installing the dampers & torsion bars, and installing the upper engine covers.

Installing the dampers and torsion bars - Take the inertia damper that you prepared in issue 41, the end with the black rod projecting from it goes to the left.
Ease the forked end of the damper over the end of the left inertia damper crank so that the holes in it engage with the pins on the crank, then in the same manner, fit the forked end on the right.

Take the torsion bar that you assembled in issue 41, check the bracket mounting points as shown in the steps and where the ends of the relay rods fit.
Carefully hook the ends of the relay rods over the links, then carefully apply ABS glue to each of the six pins of the mounting brackets, then fit the brackets into place and hold for a few minutes whilst the glue sets.

Take the coil damper which was assembled in issue 42. With the reservoir tank at the left rear, carefully fit the forked end over the left damper crank locating the two small pins inside into the holes in the end of the crank.
You may need to adjust the screw of the damper to get a good fit at the opposite end, and in the same manner, fit the forked end over the right damper crank.

Installing the upper engine covers - Take the right and left upper engine covers, provided with issue 34 and 35.
Test fit the cover onto its mount points, when familiar with the fit, remove and apply superglue to the three mount points, then fit the cover in place and hold for a few minutes whilst the glue sets - you can use masking tape to hold in place.

Repeat the process with the left upper engine cover.

That's it for this week, carefully store the sidepod parts and the engine/gearbox assembly.

Future issues:

Issue 46 - Contains the underbody panel and nose cowl, and has instruction for Stage 1 of the underbody panelling - Fitting the sidepod cowls and attaching the nose cowl.

Issue 47 - Contains cockpit parts and Stage 1 of the cockpit internal assembly - Assembling the left upper and lower switch panels and assembling the battery.

Issue 48 - Contains the front and rear cockpit frames and seat mount, and has instructions for Stage 2 of the cockpit internal assembly - Attaching the rear cockpit frame and seat mount.

Issue 49 - Contains the left/right radiator and radiator hoses., and has instructions for Stage 3 of the cockpit internal assembly - refitting of the cockpit base, fitting the left/right cockpit parts and fitting the drivers bottle.
