Hello
Could someone please help, where in Johannesburg South Africa can you buy veneer strips/sheets 0.6mm and 0.5mm thick. I would like to double plank but need to find a supplier first.

Hi DebbieLee. The two people I use are Veneer Concepts, Boksburg, wheel and deal for their sample sheets, and Ply Master, Brakpan. I have found that if you do not find the right sheets, you can use the veneer edging that the kitchen industry uses. This coem in 100metre rolls 22mm wide and 2-3mm thick. Ideal for double planking. This you can source from most kitchen manufacturers. Hope this helps. Rgds, Hans

Hi Hans I haven't started yet, I have been collecting the issues, on 49 now but decided that it is time. I will have to start a build diary and hopefully my Victory turns out like something.

Hi Debbielee, A very warm welcome to the forum and I am sure you will find your build a lot easier by using the advice available on here than if you tried to go it alone. There is a lot of help from other members on here and if you have a problem, then you only need to ask and someone will have the answer for you !! Can I presume from your member name that you are female ?? If so, then can I say how nice it is to have a lady posting and joining in active discussions and also that you will be putting up a build diary. I know there are a few female members of this forum but none that I know of have taken the plunge yet and posted anything up, so well done to you for that and I hope that you will feel welcome and at home here. We will try to be gentle with you !!! If of course, you aren't female then I apologise for my mistake !!!  Kev

Hello Kev Thank you very much for the warm welcome, I am pleased that I decided to wait and read other builds, I have seen such good ideas and so much help. You presume correct, I have done the dollhouse thing and decided to branch out a bit. I love the detail the Victory has, nice and difficult  Lets hope that I can pull it off. I will definitely be asking many more questions that everyone will probably be sick of me Thanks again Debbie

Hi Debbie, As you are about to start your build, I'm surprised no-one mentioned that deciding to double-plank this model before you've started might not be such a good idea. On this model I am at issue #60 and believe me, everything you SHOULD use (not including tools) is supplied, except superglue and more wood glue. The standard of materials for this one is very good, and I would not dream of using veneer. It's brittle, difficult to work with and just plain nasty, in my opinion. I am also halfway with building BOUNTY (Del Prado), and have used a fair amount of veneer, as the supplied material really sucks! Hello Thank you for the welcome Athol. Stowaway, thanks for the advice, the reason I want to double plank and not paint is I have been watching the Victory for Son of Bulwark and love the way his is turning out, if mine could be half as pretty as his I will be a very happy person. My brother is also half way through the Bounty but he hasn't tried to veneer yet. I am waiting now for them to send me issue 14, hopefully this time it will arrive and then I can continue. We will see how it goes when the planking does begin .
