I don't want to steal Mikes build thread here, But what needs to be mentioned here is that this is an EXCELLENT beginners kit. Be warned this is the first step to total involvement in wooden model ship building. For inspiration and guidance take a look at Magpies build, an excellent build diary is available for you to look at and far better instructions than you will find with the kit! Once again excuse me for hijacking your build Mike (what about the gallery enhancement) and a nice build you have going there Mike Steve..

Just a quick question.
Did you enlarge both the inner and outer planking to 10mm for the gun ports, or only the outer?
My friend is building this and enlarged both to 10mm now it looks like the inner should be 8mm and the outer 10mm so the guns have something to locate in.
At the moment the guns just fall through the ports.
Hopes this makes sense....
Thanks,
Steve

I hope you don't mind me butting in here to help answer Steves question. The gun ports are pre cut on the bulwark lining so you only have to cut out the planking to that size, there are then metal inserts which make up the gun port linings, these are 10mm square on the outside, but have a recess and lip on the inner surface which is 8mm square which fits perfectly into the precut size. Do you agree Mike? Come on you Jimmies

Hi Bob all my gunport lids will only fit a 10mm opening (that is the recess size) so I have cut the deck gun ports to that measurement however I must say the instructions are not over clear Regards Mike MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Hi Mike, while waiting for my Akagi to dry I decided to dry fit the San Fran but am a bit confused, if i follow the shape of the false keel there will be a bow in the main deck (part 13) is this right or a problem with the kit?
