Hi Folks,
Cursing Cursing I think I have a disaster looming, the photos show large gaps which I have just noticed,No idea what to do about that or should I go on with the build. The deck is flush with each other meaning the holes for the mast is spot on but it looks like the hull frames are too big.
This is my first build, might have bit off more than I can chew, but I try.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
great site I must admit,BigGrin BigGrin
sorry for the fuzzy photo. the third photo is were I am at.
thanks again
getting nervous now LOL

not sure what to suggest except try a few rows of hull planks, see if it comes in to line again, it may be that some sanding and filling may be required which would be ok if you are painting or tiling.

Hi sandnesspeats! Cool

Don't worry mate there isn't a problem with your build its the way the deck was laser cut, my lower deck at the stern didn't fit to the hull either.

You said,"This is my first build, might have bit off more than I can chew, but I try." take smaller bites and chew well! Just joking, it’s a partwork that has been geared up for the first time builder and what you have done looks ok! Keep up the good work and enjoy your build.

Thanks for that,It might just do that if I angle the planks a bit more maybe or build up the frames a bit so as to look not so out of place,Just wish I had seen it earlier,DOH!!!

I meant to add the following:-

The lower deck won't be seen, if you want to fill the gap between the deck and the hull you can use filler or a plank shaped to fit over the underside of the deck then glued in place. The small gap at the corners between the last frame and the underside of the gallery will be filled after you plank the lower hull.

I hope this helps mate!

Hi sandnesspeats, i agree with the replies, i also had gaps and as darron says take your time, enjoy the build its a great project, when planking lay them over the frames and as i had to do either sand down or add card or plank fillers. best of luck

Thanks again,
I have to admit that I really enjoy doing this, when I seen that gap I was horrified, just never noticed, as the ship was upright when doing the planking and ports,so never noticed it.
I have read most of the posts and found some people saying about the planks being different thickness's,well all I did was to file the width of the frames in the back of the plank, were it was higher, and seemed to work ok.I am not saying that they are perfect but it looks a bit better. One last thing I presume the cannons which I have built do not go in to the ports that I have cut out as they don`t fitBigGrin BigGrin
sorry for ranting but I am cheered up now to carry on.
This is a very helpful forum for the absolute novice.

There are 10 cannons that go on the upper gun deck and 6 cannons on the quarter deck. Dummy cannons are used on the rest of the gun ports, fitted in the holes drilled into the beams.

Absolutely and it's not a joke, break EVERYTHING down into stages.

One thing though, I can see from the pics but you may want to do a bit more fairing at the stern to get a nice, smooth shape around the back.

Have a look here.

Nice to have you aboard.

That was not my build, that was Toms, the official build.

Here's mine.

I too am a newbie, so please don't take my words as gospel but the I have completed the planking now and the stern doesn't look to bad.

I see from the photos that the stern is almost level with the centre,I just assumed that it has a little height for the rudder to slot in to.Confused Confused Confused `cos mine is 2mm higher than the centre were the rudder goes, hope you understand that bit.BigGrin BigGrin

ThumpUp

Start up your diary and you'll have somewhere to ask questions and post pictures, and lots of them and it doesn't matter how trivial. It's better to check than carry on with the possibility of having to pull bits of your ship apart to fix something.
