Now into February and the build continues, albeit somewhat slowly. Since my last update I spent some time tidying up the gun ports as they did not look square when the hull was sitting on the keel, this took a little time but I think well worth the effort. Painted the hull as per the instructions and masked off the various areas in order to paint the bands. Once painted some defects in the hull became obvious and a little light sanding was required to rectify Next came the fitting of the steps and fenders, the steps in particular I found very fiddly but managed to line them by eye and I am happy with the end result. At the moment I am not really happy with the copper paint finish so a better brush is on my shopping list next time I am in the nearest art shop. All the masking tape is still in place until the painting is complete The fighting top was built and painted as per the magazine, although I had to add 2mm inserts in order to have enough material to drill the smaller holes 24mm in from the sides, I hope this does not come back to bite me later in the build. Coming on well CMB You'll likely need to enlarge the mast top holes when it comes to inserting the bound deadeyes at 94.

Looking good CMB, your build is looking great. Slow is good. Makes for a better model and allows you to think before you build. Less kit bashing later when you have a better plan. Rgds, Hans

For those who have glanced at my build diary over the past few months you will have no doubt noticed that I had skipped over the mast building/assembly instructions and gone on to paint the hull. The reason being that I was not at all sure if I was up to the shaping and carving that was required. Well I could not put it off any longer, so purchased a length of 10mm dowel from my local timber merchant as I expected to have several attempts and using the supplied dowel had my first crack at the lower main mast. Surprise, surprise it worked out OK and the other two sections were completed as per the magazine and Mr Ts instructions. Photographs taken and I am very happy with the result The next challenge will be the rigging, I have opted for the 'no sails' & Standing rigging but she who must be obeyed says that I should fit the sails, time will tell. Now to tidy up the hull painting before starting on the next mast. If anybody spots a clanger shout loud before I screw up. Happy building to you all CMB

Since my last post I have glued the top two sections together and fitted the rigging blocks.I found it easier to line up the mast this way than by starting with the lower section,and the two seperate sections can now be stored easily until it is time to fit to the hull. I am now working on the mainyard and remenber that there were some issues with the brass wire being very brittle, had a look at SOBs solution and think that could be the way to go.
