tomick, can you help with this

when lashing the deadeyes to the port side i followed the build instructions no problems................., but

when doing the starboard side the dead eyes started to turn at an angle, the angle got worse the further back i went, until the final dead eye was sitting at almost 90 degrees to the side of the ship. i took all the lashings off and started again, but this time, instead of starting at the left hand hole on the shroud deadeye i started on the right hand hole, this has cured the problem and all dead eyes are sitting straight. is this how it should be, or should the deadeyes always start on the left hand hole.

Hi Steve,

The deadeye twist is as a result of a left or right hand twist of the thread, which can be rectified by reversing the lanyard lashing as you have done.

In reality, when a ship was new, the shroud rope would have had the correct twist for the application, but should one have to be replaced and the correct twist of rope not be available, then the lanyard lashing would have been reversed to compensate.

As a normal rule the start point is at the left, but this can vary from model to model and depending on manufacturer.
