Hi Ian, I think the ship will develope into a stand alone static model with all the fragile parts, there is a danger they could break off I have also been given the Malaysian police launch complete with RC which has meant I have no need for two Best regards Mike MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

ISSUES 24 and 25 Hi Team I want to share some of my observations regarding this Partwork, I am at all times thinking of someone new to this hobby. There are some short comings with this build, the partwork in its instructions does not talk about:- 1) How to Fair the ribs, so the planks follow the right angle. 2) How to bevel the side of the planks so they fit to each other properly. 3) How to taper the planks, so they fit without strain, therefore they do not disform the Hull by bunkering or twisting. 4) I believe some of the Hull planks should be 5mm x 2mm like I have used in the Hull 5) Pins should have beem provided for fitting planks. Over the next few days I will be covering with photos all these points, as I go through my build Questions and comments welcome Please understand I will be aiming my tips at new people Regards Mike MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

Hi Mike, I tend to agree with you, for the first time builder it can be confusing if you dont know about the art of planking to name but one, but I think there is a pecking order so to speak. The models are defined in difficulty levels and the price usually adds to that. It would be a big deal to a beginner doing a 5 level difficulty rating. As for one of your other points which I holehartily agree on is the nail issue. On the home page it clearly states that you would receive everything needed to complete each stage of the build, and I take that is any build, except you do not get any nails to achieve this. I complained to cs and was told that I do not get them until later in the build!!!!!,so how am I meant to complete each stage especialy planking with no nails.Just as well I had the good sense to buy some before I started the build after reading some of the other posts. Hi mike I agree that there are some shortcomings in the build instructions and as a novice builder these have led to some confusion on my part. Thanks for taking the time to advise us non veteran builders on how to approach these issues. I look forward to reading your posts especially being as I am a bit behind everyone else as they will be very useful to follow Cheers V86 Cheers Peter

i have not taper anny of my planks i know when you come to the bottom planks theres a couple of mm gaps in the middle when you lay the plank in ,but when you pull it next to the other plank the ends come and down and tuches all frames because of the planks thickness there not a lot of strain as for the shape of the hull the planking is complety different from round nose bow and stern ships, but there again this is my prefferance

ISSUES 24, 25 and 26 Hi Team I am going to try and explain with pictures, for the new people, How I have Tapered and bevelled planks, and how I have faired the Hull ribs. Ok, it is my opinion there are short comings in the instructions of this build. The ribs in the photos have certainly been faired but the instructions do not explain how. I know you experienced modellers do it automatically, and your are saying to yourself "whats he talking about its easy"? Its not easy to a new person, so here goes!!!! First photo:-In this one you will see I have filed the edge of each rib ,which is the nearest to the leading edge of the bow. Pay particular attention to the rib which is fitted with part 110,it gives a thickness which is the equivelent to 2 ribs this must be filed untill you can not feel the join and angled to the shape of the finished planked hull. In this photo you will see the white between the ribs, this is wet PVA I have just applied for extra south MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.

ISSUES 24, 25 and 26 Where ever you have the double rib pay particular attention to making sure you cannot feel the join these are 3b/8b/11/37 and 40 (plus the one I have allready shown you) you can not spend to much time fairing the Hull it will pay you dividends later when you start planking. MWG attached the following image(s): MWG BUILD DIARIES: HMS VICTORY, SOVEREIGN OF THE SEAS, SAN FRANCISCO II, HMS HOOD, HMS ENDEAVOUR LONGBOAT, HMS VICTORY X-SECTION, 007 DB5, NISSAN GTR, CUTTY SARK, RB7, AKAGI, BARK HMS ENDEAVOUR, HUMMER H1, MITSUBISHI ZERO.
