ISSUE 24, 25, and 26

This is the last photo for this tutorial, more to come tomorrow on another subject.

I am dissapointed this Partwork does not come with trenails or pins please buy a couple of packets before you start building.

ISSUE 24 comes with approx 40 planks but it tells you the issue contains 20 planks the extra are required later in the build, please store them away safelyBigGrin

I hope this has been useful to you, I will have completed the 3 issues by tomorrow, and I have found some strange things with this build which I will highlite to youBigGrin

Questions and comments welcomeBigGrin Regards MikeBigGrin

TAPER AND BEVEL PLANKS

Hi Team I have compiled a series of photos to best explain this process:-

This first process is a bevel (sanding the edge of the plank so it butts up to the next plank)

First sand at an angle, then run some glue down the edge, then fix with pins up to the next plank (using EVO STIK weatherproof adhesive
--- Blue bottle )

Then wipe off excess adhesiveBigGrin Questions and comments welcomeBigGrin

I have been using this technique over the last couple of days while planking, im just working through issue 23 a the minute and i will be following your build log for tips.

Its a big help seeing how you do it. I will be uploading photos in the coming days so you can see what you think of my progress.

Cheers again Mike

Hi Sean, no worriesBigGrin In this case coat the inside with epoxy adhesive.

If you are making your build R/C, one of Mr T`s tips I picked up sometime ago is to use Plasterers webbing one side is self adhesive, with the epxy adhesive.BigGrin

In all my builds I bevel the plank and use adhesive between each plankBigGrin Regards MikeBigGrin

Hi Team I have found a potential problem, at the Stearn rib 39 and 40,I did not have firm rib to fix my planks too here are some photos to highlite the problem and how I overcame it:-

I identified the gap, fitted a 75mm length of 5mm x 2mm.

Then I shaped the piece and finaly fitted the plank.BigGrin (both sides have the same problem.

I had the same problem a few weeks back mike. This is what I did

(ignore the glue it will come off) I used one piece and tapered both edges the cut it in half fitting it in the gap at an angle so the rib was flat. Just another idea although ours is properly the better of the two.

it seems a bit daft that the kit makers would leave such a big gap, it somtimes makes you wonder if anyone in the company actually makes their own kits.
also i sometimes worry that somewhere way, way, down the line that there may be a reason for some of these gaps/other problems, and that in issue 100 for example, there is some instruction mentions why you should not have filled the gap or whatever. i suppose that is always going to be a partwork problem as you are always "flying blind".
keep up the good work mike

TAPERING THE PLANKS

Hi Team as promised a series of photos showing a method of tapering;-

In the two examples you can see what I have done to shape the planks to fit the space, you will also see I have also used 5mm x 2mm planks instead of the ones supplied, this has allowed me to get a better curve where requiredBigGrin
