We're still having awesome weather so most of the weekend was spent in the pool. I did however manage to complete the assembly of the cabin partitions (with some of Jase's enhancements ;) The side panels containing the doors will be fitted once this box has been glued to the deck.) I used pins for the door handles - seems a little more to scale Also thanks to Jase: The Admiral's companionway cover:

nice to hear you have good weather down there stefan it's miseable here. to give the partitions a bit more surface at the bottom, i glued a couple of scrap 3mmx3mm bits of wood to the rear lower edges of the partitions, so the pieces were out of sight, that gave it a bit more strength when gluing to the deck. Come on you Jimmies

Thanks Saintsman, This week has been high 20's low 30's, predicted to turn by the weekend - we seriously need some rain. Progress update: The ship's wheel before the wire-ends were cut and sanded flush with the uprights The cabin partitions and admiral's companionway mounted. (I modified the handles to the doors as the circles didn't make much sense to me) Planking of the poop deck (is that really it's name??) in progress, the ship's wheel mounted temporarily

I like your idea for the door handles in your two posts,Stefan. She's really beginning to take shape now. You seem to be picking up a lot of speed. Looking good. Thanks Hans - I'm sure I saw them on someone else's build ;) I'm trying to put in an hour or 2 every weeknight (when possible) Poop-deck planking on the port side complete. The little wooden "clips" are still proving very handy. I found the rear of the poopdeck very springy, so I glued 2 2x5mm planks together, shaped them and stuck them to the rear gallery, making sure that the windows are not obscured:

we have hit the middle teens temp wise, predicted to be below zero overnight.............but believe it or not a hosepipe ban starts next week due to the lack of rain in our area. the whole of the uk can be under a cloud but it very rarely rains here, i heard or read somewhere that we are on par with the sahara as far as rainfall in our area. Thanks Ian. I'm really pleased with the way my hull turned out. I'm sure yours will be excellent - just follow the official instructions and have a look at the great build dairies. Managed to complete the poop-deck planking last night: The mizzen-mast hole still has to be enlarged (8mm drill) and then the deck will be sanded.

Thanks Mike and Jonny! I'm a little dispirited after cutting the rear of the ship over the weekend. My wife looked at the model on Saturday evening and asked why the rear set of ladders were "blocked" - going back over the instructions we noticed that the rope 'handrail' on the rear ladder was fitted the wrong way round. Corrected now: The cutting of the hull and bulwark was really discouraging, I don't think the method described in the magazine (which I followed) is the best one. :( My biggest gripe is that the cut must be exactly horizontal and with the shape of the hull being what it is I found it really difficult. I found that on the port-side, the bulwark was cut away too much and I had to glue a filler piece in place which will need to be sanded down: while on the starboard side, the cut went down too low towards the bow - filler strips added: I'm going to make the starboard side exactly the same as the Port side, so now it's just sanding, cutting and measuring until both sides are exactly equal in height and slope.

Hi Stefan...That part was a nightmare for me too!! I was not too happy over the idea of taking a razor saw to my very precious model, you wouldn't believe how many times that I measured it before finally making the cut, and even then it came out slightly uneven!! I had to build it up with strips of planking knowing that it would be hidden by the capping rail which would hide the errors....Hang in there mate, all will come right in the end... Hi Stefan! I was sorry to hear you had problems cutting the bulwarks I didn’t like the idea of putting the ship on its side as per the magazine, which was why I cut the bulwarks with the ship held in the build stand. I'm glad your deck wasn't harmed. Keep your chin up mate! Darron

Ouch. Not a nice thing to happen. But thanks for the heads up. We will have to watch out for it. Good recovery though, well done. if it helps others I treated the bulwarks the same as a carpenter, rough cut first, leaving 2 or 3mm undercut, then planed with a david plan, then sanded to final shape. without a doubt that was the most daunting stage of the build, i left mine as long as possible before cutting, as i could not bring myself to saw through something that had taken so long to build, in the end i did as karl and cut slightly short and sanded the rest. hope you get everything sorted. Come on you Jimmies
