The new doc will delve below decks tonight to try to uncover how the supposedly unsinkable Titanic met her icy end.

'Inside The Titanic' is based on witness statements given by some of the 710 survivors called to inquiries in London and New York in the days after the tragedy.

The big-budget 90-minute doc depicts how the ship sank, from the perspective of the men in the engine rooms who struggled to save it.

It is intercut with a series of tales from the passengers, such as a man who raced to save his secret mistress, a nurse hunting for a child in her care and two brothers debating whether to jump from the stricken liner or stay aboard.

The programme uses CGI based on the blueprints of the doomed ship and forensic analysis, coupled with actors delivering the words of the eyewitnesses.

'Inside The Titanic' is on Channel 5 at 8pm tonight 22nd March
