Hello shipmates,

Here are the first pictures of the Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II royal barge taking to the water for the first time. What a beauty! Its taken four years and 60 craftsmen to construct her using the methodology and traditional techniques dating back to the Anglo-Saxon boat builders of the fourth Century.

The barge replicates the limousine style row barges that ferried royalty on the river Thames until Georgian times. The wood used to construct her was sweet chestnut, from Prince Charles Duchy of Cornwall estates.

Mr T couldn't DeAgostini produce a model of this to celebrate the queens Diamond Jubilee. Given how many people love our gracious queen the world over, it would be a best seller. Perhaps you could suggest it to Admin? BigGrin

The Royal Yacht Britannia, QE2 and Queen Mary have been previously mentioned, which as partwork's would be unlikley to draw enough interest worldwide to make these viable as a partwork, unfortunately the same would apply to the Royal Barge, though never say never, and one thing for sure is that such a kit as a pratwork, could not be produced in time for the Jubilee.

Having said that, possibly a retail manufacturer is already hard at work in producing a Royal Barge model kit, be in in plastic or wood format, possibly Airfix might tackle the subject in plastic.
