The PM has decided to reverse a decision on the type of jets due to fly from the two new carrier ships. He has decided to follow military advice and abandon plans to buy the conventional F-35C Joint Strike Fighter after costs soared by £1.8billion. Instead, the Government will revert to the F-35B version which takes off and lands like a Harrier jump jet. The U-turn will be especially embarrassing because the jump jet was Labour’s choice – one that Mr Cameron overturned! http://www.dailymail.co....s.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

The Eurofighter Typhoon has defeated the F-22 Raptor in a mock dogfight and every other aircraft it has come up against. It can also track and engage targets over the horizon and has full look- down and shoot down capability. US Marine pilots have already been complaining about the JSF capabilities when in a close dogfight situation. So one might wonder why the MOD would want to purchase this aircraft.

Hi all, the last i heard was the new proposed jsf cannot even land on an aircraft carrier! The exhaust gases are way too hot and would burn the deck in an instant and the amount of power produced would blow the crew off the deck!! ......if no one believes this i will post a link :-)

Why dont they put some work back into UK defence industry & build Harriers,a tried, tested & well proven piece of kit...but that would just add more egg to the powers that be's faces I suppose seeing that they sold all the ones we had to the Americans who love them! I think this is what you are talking about regarding the arrestor hook Rob: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news...n-aircraft-carriers.htmlAnd here is the link to the official F-35 JSF website:http://www.jsf.mil/
