Good Day I have decide to start a build diary although I am far into my build. only recently have taken some photo's of the build. In thye past I get too involved with the build and forget about time and taking photo's. I am at present in Afghanistan where I work for two months and the return home for a month, and that is when I build. Whilst building I have seen what tools (eg key hole saw that fits onto the exacta knife that can be used to cut out the gunports) and equipment (eg 25mm C clampgs to hold down the decking) we require to assist in the build and it is not available in South Africa, I have purchased some tools and accessories from the USA. I have posted a link in the tool section and although some say it is expensive, it is still cheaper than what we would pay for it at home and only if it is available. I am busy uploading the photo's into photobucket and will then post them. Thanks Current Build: HMS Victory

Thanks Stefan Here is Victory's Dockyard. Adding the dolphins and ornaments. While adding the ornaments on the portside I ran into trouble as the clamps kept on jumping off. I remedy this by using pins to give me the correct curve. Current Build: HMS Victory

Great looking workshop! Very good job on the build as well. You may want to think about increasing the space between the ornaments, I seem to recall one of the chaps having a problem fitting the castings as the gap was too narrow - have a look at the build dairies.

Thanks Here are some photo's when I started planking the Lower gundeck. I had a problem using the clamps to secure the deck beams as they are cumbersome. I have now bought muself some 25mm C Clamps which will rectify this problem. Current Build: HMS Victory

Looking good Castos. You can also use washing pegs or even bulldog clips to get into the tight spaces.

Some more photo's: Preparing the canons for fitting. I then did the bitts using a Dremel tool. I firstly drilled 1mm holes for the slots, then turned the dremel tool 90 degrees to the right and routed the slots to perfection, using the 1mm drill bit. Current Build: HMS Victory

Hi Stefan I have liberated some small pegs and the daughters hair grips which work when the gaps are large. It is only when I get closer to the hull that it becomes a problem. Cheers Current Build: HMS Victory

Looking good there Castos. Looks like you have the right tool for the right job there. Well done. Take your time. Thats the name of the game. There is not a rush or competition for when you complete. If it take 3 years or longer, so what, as long as you are happy with what you are doing, you will achieve the desired result. I found that if you take your time, you are able to pick up the problems, corrections and tips on the other builds, and there are some excellent ones to follow. Keep up the good work. I would agree with Stephan's remarks, the gaps on the ornaments seem a bit tight. Mine tapered to approx 5mm and they where a bit tight when it came to adding the top of the two castings. Had to grind a small part off the castings (Bit scary as they can be a bit fragile) but as they say necessity is the mother of invention and the final fit looks OK Your stand looks familiar ??!! Would that be a copy of the one I posted recently. If it is I am glad that someone found my suggestion useful. I find it a lot easier to work on the hull when presented at an angle Enjoy your build Current Build:- [color=blue]Stash Avro Lancaster (Full Kit)plus some extra issues I picked up at a good price [color=blue]Built:- Norman Catapult by Mantua,Roman Catapult by Mantua,HMS Victory,HMS Victory XSection,Focker DB1,Bismark,English Carronade Titanic Lifeboat,American Civil War Gatling,Hummer,Sopwith Camel F1,Occre Jupiter ,OcCre Wagon, Latina Arab Dhow, Eaglemass Orrery OcCre Rogers 119 [color=red][color=red]RB7,OcCre Missippi River Boat, Model Airways Fokker DR1 OcCre London L>C>C 106 Ugears Scrambler, Ugears Hexapod Explorer UGears Off-Road Vehicle

Good Day I have been reading through a lot of the builds where there are complaints about the wire that is being used as it is brittle and breaks easily. I use aircraft locking wire which varies in thickness from 0.010" to 0.035". It is strong, flexible and does not break very easily. Enjoy your day. Current Build: HMS Victory

Hi Castos, I used the supplied wire and didn't have any hassles, except for 1 or 2 cases where I overtightend it. I guess you are familiar with the saying: " With enough force you can break your finger ..." ;)

Thanks Stefan. I used the wire on the caronade and it broke with the first twist, so I used the locking wire and no problems. 12 days to go and then I can build again. Whilst here in Afghan country, I did some shopping in the country across the big pond. Bought some keyhole cutting blades. Some 25mm C-Clamps. Some books to assist me with model building. Cheers.
