Hi chaps
Here are some of the basic paint colours you will need. I am sure that there will be lots of discussion about the early war (Pearl Harbour) colour, but matched from genuine authenticated paint chips here you go
Airframe - Aotake
The match to this comes from the lifecolour range - UA136.
Cockpit area
Tamiya XF71 Cockpit Green (IJN
Early War (Pearl Harbour)
Now it appears that there are a few colours It depends on where the aircraft was built. I am not sure which is which, so maybe someone with the acess to a good well researched reference book will be able to add to this.
All over apart from cowling.
Lifecolour UA021 Matched paint for IJN zero 1941
Also this colour was used as well
Tamiya XF12 - this is a very light grey/green colour.
Over time the salty air changed the colour to an almost white colour. this is best referenced by either
Tamiya TS45 Pearl White or Tamiya AS20 Insignia White
Late War
The colours are best referenced for late war as these:
Upper Surface Lifecolour UA008 (FS34092)
Undersurface Lifecolour UA021 (FS36622)
In all cases the cowling remained black with a silk sheen to it throughout the war.
Identification yellow
Used from 1943 for quick-recognition bands on leading edges of fighter a/c
Lifecolour UA140 FS:33538 (this also matches Luftwaffe RLM04)
Now don't forget that you have to prime the parts before colouring!!!!
I hope this gives everyone some help
James

Update on the cockpit Green - 'Mr Hobby' #126 noted as 'mitsubishi green' is recommended in the series. The production number of this aircaft means it was a Mitsubishi built A6M2 rather than Nakajima built, the latter of which used a different shade of green. Here's a seller, (finding it on sale in the UK might prove difficult): http://www.ebay.co.uk/it...d%3D8206623729871745624
