i have now fitted the mizzen booms and sail, but can't finish rigging it as the magazine leaves the last bit until later.

i had a few problems with the lanterns as i misplaced them. i have now found them and should be fitting them later today.

when fitting the lanterns make sure you get the correct diameter drill bit, the magazine says to use a 1mm bit but when i measured the lantern posts they were 1.4mm and 1.2mm so make sure you check before drilling.

i'll be starting the bowsprit yards next, but from reading the magazine there are more holes to be drilled in the bowsprit, anyone who is at the bowsprit stage should maybe look at the official build for issue 104 and drill these holes before fitting the bowsprit. i've noticed a few steps in the recent magazines that seem to take us back to alter/add new steps to work done in previous issues. such as increasing the size of the pinrail bitts, and altering some blocks which have already been fitted, so make sure you read ahead, one to look out for is where the heart blocks are fitted to the main mast, as the actual length of thread is altered at a later stage.

Thanks for the heads up on these points, if you dont mind me adding, the cannon balls and some of the pins could be added when constructing the garlands /pinrails before gluing in their final places, as you have said keep a good eye on the official build and anyone that may be ahead of your own build.
Good diary, Steve..

thanks steveBigGrin ype your right about the cannonballs, it's much easier to do them at the time than try and fiddle about with them when the parts are on the model.

anyone who has read son of bulwarks diary can see there looks as though there is a problem with the staysails, i thought we would hit some trouble at this point, especially as the official build is going bare spars.

please note this is not a complaint about tomicks wonderful diary and the advice he gives.

i felt a while a go, that for us who have choosen sails we would be going into this stage blind, with only the magazine for guidance. i know it would be too much work for anyone, let alone the wonderful mrt. to provide a double diary, with stained and painted, bare spars and sails, but as we have seen before there are a number of small errors in the magazine regarding typo's, which tomick has been able to clear up for us, but i feel this could be more than just a slight typing error.

i know darron has pm'd tomick about the problem so it's a case of waiting for an answer.

for once i am not going to go off on one of my rants, mainly because i'm off to scotland in the morning for a bit of a break, so am in no hurry for a reply, as i will not be able to do anything on victory for a week.

so happy easter to everyone, and i hope it's all sorted when i get back, a week with no modellingMad and no internetMad Mad ,........how will i survive.BigGrin BigGrin BigGrin
