Hi all. Another new subscriber to the HMS Victory build in Australia. Just received issues 8-11 but still no tool kit. Has anyone else received their toolkit in AU yet ? Any quick question as a newbie. Seems I can only post to this forum and not the specific Australian HMS victory thread. Is there a trick to this ? ;-)

Hi Sean,
I too am still awaiting the tool kit; it did not arrive yesterday with issues 8 to 11.
It was mentioned that the tool kit arrives with dispatch 5, which probably means we have another two months to wait until the tool kit arrives.
Perhaps someone can let us know what is included in the supplied tool kit so we can buy other items. In my case I have no modelling tools so knowing what I can expect to receive would be very helpful and stop unnecessary duplication.
On a similar note, has anyone received the delayed binder yet?
Jeff

That's the same kit we received for the Victory build here in SA. I found the Archimedian drill to be rubbish and bought a pin vice with various drill bits. The knife was ok, but the handle broke and had to be discarded. The plank-bender, pliers, side-cutter and files works well. You will need a small saw and mitre-box (Try to get a good quality one - the cheap (chinese?) kits are quite frustrating to work with.

Hi Jeff, I have confirmed with Bissett Mags that we do indeed receive the toolkit with the FIFTH dispatch ie after we have received 20 issues. I can understand them wanting to ensure we dont cancel our subscription too early lol but pretty much all you can do without tools is start building the hull and the rib frames :-( Oh well, I did buy a Dremel just in case with some micro drill bits as well as some needle files. The Launch is ready for planking and Im trying to build up the courage to start steaming, bending and gluing ;-) Oh and I did bite the bullet and get the whole HMS Victory Paint Set from Cornwall Model boats ;-)

@Stefan and Andy, many thanks for the info. Guess I will be sourcing most of the items I need locally then seandavies wrote:

Sean, how was the service and pricing, if you don't mind sharing that info?

Pleasure. Sean, if I recall correctly, the planks on the launch are so thin that they don't need steaming. Just make sure you fair the ribs enough.

You are correct Stefan...The launch planks are in deed too thin to need any soaking or steaming...Happy building shipmates. Current Builds: Deagostini HMS Victory: Deagostini HMS Sovereign of the seas. Completed Builds: Del Prado: HMAS Bounty: Hachette: RMS Titanic: Del Prado: Cutty Sark...

The easiest way to bend the boat planks is to put your thumbnail on the underside of your fore finger with the plank clamped between them with moderate pressure & just pull the plank through them a few times. If a twist is needed in the plank just twist a little as you pull. The only reason I suggest this is because after clearing my cache (in my browser) I couldn't see which were the new posts. Then noticed i wasn't logged in. Note to self; don't be so vicious when clearing stuff from laptop

Sean, how was the service and pricing, if you don't mind sharing that info? Just putting in my two cents. I bought my Victory paint set from Cornwall Model Boats also. Service was fantastic and was just under $50 with shipping to Australia. Customs is a bit slow at the moment however, it took just under two weeks to arrive. Definitely worth the price though, they are fantastic paints.

Hi Jinnai,
$50 is a very reasonable price; many thanks for the info.
