Parts #17 - Contains ribs #25 & #26, wingtip ribs #1 & #4, wingtip castings 1 & 2, hinges, screws, ribs 'F' & 'R' and a set of Zero blueprints.

As with the previous ribs, prepare and label ribs #25 & #26.

Cut three lengths of truss, 3mm, 9mm and 10mm.

Cut and shape three lengths of tube, 2.5mm, 5mm and 5.5mm (when crimping the 2.5mm length, just crush the very tip of the tube at both ends).

Glue the truss and tube sections to rib #25

Layout all of the wing tip ribs, then remove the part numbers as with the wing ribs. Be careful not to remove the projections.

Identify ribs 'F' & 'R', then using a 0.7mm bit, drill a hole at the marked the points on both ribs.

Secure the hinges to both ribs with 4 micro screws, make sure that each hinge is correctly identified for its corresponding rib.

Fit rib #2 and rib 'F' together, ensure that they are fully seated and sat square, then run a small amount of liquid superglue into the joints (via a cocktail stick) to set the assembly. Then add rib 'R' to the assembly, followed by ribs #3 and #1, all glued in a similar manner.

Remove any burrs from wing edge castings 1 & 2.

Identify casting #1 and its central separation point. Use a fine needle file to score the centre line to a point where it is thin enough to break in two at the marked point, then Identify 'A 'and 'B' from the cut length and smooth the cut ends.

Test fit casting #2 onto the wing tip assembly, and glue into place.

Test fit casting 'B' onto the wing tip assembly, and glue into place.

Lightly score part #4 at the fold point, then carefully fold to form an 'L' shape which matches the profile shown in the step diagram.

Test fit the shape in place, ensure that it engages with the step and the projection, then glue into place.

Glue casting 'A' to the front of rib #25, locating the projection on the casting through the hole in the front of the rib, ensure that the casting is located onto the correct side of the rib (opposite side to the truss & tube sectrions).

Finally, temporarily fit rib #28 into the last slots of the wingframe.

That's it for this stage, carefully store rib #26, the wing tip assembly and wingframe.

Future parts sets:

Parts #18 - Contains the right (starboard) wing main and rear spars, rib #2 & #12 and rocker boxes.

Parts #19 - Contains the right (starboard) wing frame, engine rings, screws, rod, spark plugs and wing rib #1

Parts #20 - Contains the right (starboard) wing ribs #3 & #4, engine firewall plates A, B & C and the electrode ring.

Parts #18 - Contains the right (starboard) wing main and rear spars, rib #2 & #12 and rocker boxes.

The start of the right-hand/starboard wingframe build.

Prepare and mark ribs #2 & #12 as before.

As on the previs wing spars, drill 0.7mm and 1.0mm holes into the wing spar tabs at the indicated/marked points.

As before, temporarily locate rib #2 & #12 into the wingframe.

Prepare and drill the six rocker box castings as before. Then cut and shape six 20mm lengths of rod, and paint the rockers/rods black.

Fit the rods and rockers to the engine as shown, this time onto the opposite side of the engine and in a clockwise direction.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the right-hand wingframe and engine.

Future parts sets:

Parts #19 - Contains the right (starboard) wing frame, engine rings, screws, rod, spark plugs and wing rib #1

Parts #20 - Contains the right (starboard) wing ribs #3 & #4, engine firewall plates A, B & C and the electrode ring.

Parts #19 - Contains the right (starboard) wing frame, engine rings, screws, rod, spark plugs and wing rib #1.

Prepare and label rib #1 as before.

Drill the 1mm holes at the marked depressions in the wing frame as before, then secure it to the wing spars with 6 screws as before.

Drill and prepare the spark plugs as before, then remove any burrs from the engine ring. Then Spray with either metal primer of clear lacquer depending on your choice of finish.

Fit the first seven spark plugs to the cylinders on the engine as shown in the steps, so that the plugs face the same orientation as those already fitted.
Then fit the seven remaining plugs, this time on the opposite side of the cylinders. Because of the exhausts, the placement of these plugs is a little awkward, angled tweezers will assist their placement.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the engine, ring and wingframe.

Future parts sets:

Parts #20 - Contains the right (starboard) wing ribs #3 & #4, engine firewall plates A, B & C and the electrode ring.

Parts #20 - Contains the right (starboard) wing ribs #3 & #4, engine firewall plates A, B & C and the electrode ring.

Prepare and label rib #3 and #4, then locate both into position on the wingframe.

Check the electrode tube for burrs, then using a 1mm bit, carefully drill each of the four projections 2mm deep.

Locate the 28 hole marking's around the rim, use a 0.7mm drill bit to drill a 1.5mm deep hole at each of the 28 marked points. Take great care that the bit does not exit the sides of the hole!

Glue the electrode ring to the engine by locating its four mount lugs into the corresponding sockets on the engine case.

Drill 0.7mm holes at the marked points on the upright tabs of firewall panel 'A' and remove any drill burr from the drill exit side.

Shape two scraps of wood (or use scrap dowel) to snuggly fit through the upper large holes of firewall 'B' .

Apply superglue to the upper surface of firewall 'B' and add firewall 'C' on top ensuring that the holes are aligned.
Then glue the B/C section to bulkhead 'A' ensuring that the tabs of bulkhead 'A' face towards the outside/downwards.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the engine, wingframe and bulkhead plate.

Parts #21 - Contains the right and left fuselage frames, cockpit fuselage former, reinforcing plate and rocker box x2.

Prepare the two rocker boxes as before and cut two 20mm long rods, then fit these to the engine as before.

Use a 0.7mm bit to drill the mount tabs on both frames at the marked points.

You now have a 'finish' choice to make - either to finish your model in its natural aluminium finish or paint the framework as shown in the steps. I will be following a natural finish for the framework and will also paint some of the interior components as we go along, ultimately the choice is yours.

Assembling the fuselage frame - To create a stronger joint at the fuselage join, its best to lightly sand the contact surfaces of the frame and the reinforcing plate.
Ensure that you sand apply glue to the correct side of the reinforcing plate and that it is oriented correctly into the framework. Fit the plate halfway across the joint line and when the glue has fully set marry-up the opposite fuselage section, and make the joint.

Identify the frame mount points on the bulkhead previously constructed. The tabs at the forward end of the fuselage framework slot into the slots of the bulkhead. When you are happy with the positioning and fit, apply liquid superglue into the joints to set them, then set the assembly aside to allow the glue to fully bond.

Identify the correct orientation of bulkhead 'A' within the framework, also its position within the framework and glue contact points, when you are happy with the fit, apply a small amount of superglue to the joints to set the bulkhead in place then set the assembly aside to allow the glue to fully bond.

When securing the fuselage frames, its recommended to use a thin superglue and apply via a fine capillary tube as per the photo.

Further fuselage frames are added at the next stage.

That's it for this stage, carefully store the fuselage framework and engine.

Future parts sets:

Parts #22 - Contains fuselage former x6, and machine gun castings x2

Parts #23 - Contains ammunition magazine, bulkhead x3, oxygen cylinder and machine gun castings x2

Parts #24 - Contains a wingframe, fuselage frame, rib #5, rocker box x2, screws and fuselage support x2
