Issue 61 - Contains the lower engine cowl., and has instructions for preparing the cowl.

The part provided is the large body cowl that hugs the lower left side of the engine. In the next issue, you will receive the rear fairing fence and flip-up that will be attached to it. You need to prepare the two long edges of the cowl by carefully removing the paint in the areas shown.

Removing the paint - Holding the cowl with the Vodafone logo the right way up, you will see that the rear half of the edge of the cowl steps down slightly and has five small locating pins. You need to remove any paint from the upper face of this edge.
Carefully scrape the paint away using a craft knife, taking care not to scratch the outer face of the cowl or damage the projecting pins.

Now turn the cowl the other way up and locate the four sections of the edge that are set back slightly. You need to remove the paint from the outer faces of these areas as shown in the steps, again taking care not to scratch the outer face of the cowl.

That's it for this week, carefully store the cowl.

Future issues:

Issue 62 - Contains the left rear fairing fence and left flip-up., and has instructions for Stage 1 of assembling the engine cowls - Preparing the parts and joining the flip-up and fence.

Issue 62 - Contains the left rear fairing fence and left flip-up., and has instructions for Stage 1 of assembling the engine cowls - Preparing the parts and joining the flip-up and fence.

Preparing the parts - Carefully study the step photos before scraping paint from the parts. Be very careful not to accidentally damage the paint on other areas of the mouldings.

Carefully scrape the paint off the two areas of the flip-up enclosed by the oval and rectangular red lines shown in the steps. Also scrape off a thin line along the indicated double-ended red arrow line running through the five holes in the moulding.
Scrape the paint off the front face of the projection indicated by a yellow arrow in the inset photo. Then scrape the paint off the edge of the angled notch indicated by the yellow arrow and lines.

Scrape the paint off the area of the rear fairing fence outlined in red in the steps, including the projection indicated by the green arrow. Do not remove paint from the areas indicated by the blue arrows.

Scrape the paint off the recess indicated by the red arrow and be careful not to damage the red paint on the tip of the moulding.

Joining the flip-up and fence - Be careful not to get adhesive onto the painted surfaces.

Test-fit the parts and note the glue contact points, especially the arrowed notches and projections (including the one on the inside, marked in green).

Apply a little ABS adhesive to the edge of the moulding indicated by a yellow line, and the notch indicated with an arrow. Be very careful not to get adhesive onto the painted surface!

Apply glue to the fence as indicated in the steps with yellow arrows and lines. Be careful not to get adhesive on the point indicated by a blue arrow.

Press the parts together and hold for a couple of minutes until the adhesive sets. Then tape the joint, support the assembly in a vertical position and leave it to set fully.

That's it for this week, carefully store the assembly.
